A spectacular Bollywood-themed fireworks display will provide a stunning finale to this year's Diwali in Middlesbrough.
The free family festival returns to Centre Square in Middlesbrough on Saturday October 25, from 12 noon to 6pm.
A week before the town celebrates bonfire night, visitors can enjoy an early treat at a professionally choreographed show set to popular Bollywood music.
Diwali in Middlesbrough producer Kash Patel said: “Diwali is also known as the Festival of Light and is traditionally celebrated with firecrackers and fireworks, so in much the same way, we will culminate our event with a professional firework finale that will light up the local landscape.
“It’s great that people in Middlesbrough can come out with their friends and family and enjoy a colourful and vibrant event without it costing them a fortune.
"Let’s be honest, we’ve not had much to sing or dance about lately so to have the opportunity to enjoy a free day of fun, also featuring food and a funfair, is definitely worth shouting about.”
Diwali is a free, family-friendly event featuring live music, dance, mouth-watering street food, free children’s activities such as drumming and lantern making workshops, and a fun fair.
As announced last week, Diwali in Middlesbrough’s music and dance programme is headlined by Juggy D, who was collaborated with artists such as Ricky Martin and Madonna and is known in the Asian music industry as the Punjabi Rockstar.
Celebrated globally by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains, Diwali symbolises the triumph of good over evil. Last year’s event saw thousands enjoy the festivities in Centre Square, with this year’s event promising to even bigger.
Councillor Philippa Storey, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive member for Education & Culture, said: “Diwali is a fantastic celebration for the whole family, and the team have pulled out all the stops to deliver a first class programme.
“There’s something for everyone, and we can’t wait to welcome people from across Middlesbrough and beyond to Centre Square for what promises to be a very special day.”
Diwali in Middlesbrough is on Saturday, October 25 in Centre Square from 12 noon to 6pm. The event is free for everyone, no tickets are required.
