It is the animation film festival element of Animex, commencing on 22nd May 2017. This year we received more than 2000 entries from around the globe!

Animex Screen & Awards celebrates the unique art of animation in every style and technique, from 2D drawing to CGI to stop-motion, from experimental to visual effects to computer games. Animex Awards is the international competition for student animations as well as professional short animations. Judging panels from previous awards have included representatives from Walt Disney Animation Studios,

LAIKA, ToonBoom Animation, Beryl Productions International, Atomhawk Design, Pixar, ILM, Disney, Aardman Animation, Sony Image Works, DreamWorks and Electronic Arts, to name a few. Judges and pre-selectors also include a team of animation academics, animation professionals and a team of students.

Our Story

Animex Awards is an international competition for student animations, held each year as part of the Animex Festival of Games and Animation, at Teesside University, UK.

Each year we receive between 1000 - 2000 eligible entries from more than 80 countries.

Animex Awards celebrates the unique art of animation, bringing you some of the best student animated films from across the globe. This year, animations will be screening at several local venues during April - May 2018.

The competition categories and prizes are:

INTERNATIONAL CATEGORIES: STUDENT - CGI Animation Award STUDENT - Visual Effects Award STUDENT - 2D Animation Award STUDENT - Character Animation Award STUDENT - Narrative Award STUDENT - Stop-motion Animation Award STUDENT - Experimental Animation Award

UK CATEGORIES: UK Young Animation Award 16+ UK Young Animation Award 11-16

PRIZES:

CRAFT are excited to sponsor the 7 international categories of Animex Award winners with an annual free subscription and a digital copy of the new art book, "How We Crafted", where 12 creators share their insights on the creative process. Read more on CRAFT at https://itsoncraft.com

CRAFT is an online platform that lets you get behind the scenes of beautiful indie projects in animation and video games. Dive into thousands of concept artworks and sketches or read directors´ notes and scripts. Normally you see the final pieces - we show you the story behind. CRAFT has collected 12 stories into one single art book called "How We Crafted". Learn and get inspired by top-notch creators sharing their process.

Toon Boom Prize for 2D Animation Toon Boom are excited to sponsor a special prize for 2D Animation, open to any entry of work created in a 2D animation technique. The award winner will receive a 1 year Harmony Premium license. Read about Toon Boom Animation at https://www.toonboom.com

BCS Prize for CGI Computer Animation The British Computer Society are excited to sponsor a special prize for 3D animation, open to any entry of work created in 3D using cgi animation. The award winner will receive an Alexa Echo Show.
