Doors Open Days Free access to thousands of buildings around Scotland every September. Tours, talks and more! This page was created with support from Event Scotland.

Doors Open Days is part of European Heritage Days, supported by Historic Environment Scotland. Area coordinators create and manage local programmes and work for a variety of local authorities, civic trusts and heritage organisations.

Are you based in Caithness or Sutherland and interested in taking part in this year's Doors Open Days on September 19th and 20th?

Venues across Caithness and Sutherland will again be taking part in Doors Open Days – the annual festival that sees organisations and volunteers offer free access to locations across Scotland.
It aims to ensure that the country’s built and cultural heritage is made accessible to everyone, with museums, heritage attractions and other buildings throwing open their doors free of charge during September.

Doors Open Days 2026 | Open for Submissions

We are now accepting submissions for venues, experiences and places to take part in Doors Open Days 2026 for Perth and Kinross.
The theme this year is Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine.

This theme emphasizes the urgent need for action and creativity in protecting our shared heritage, highlighting efforts to revive endangered traditions and communities standing against threats like climate change and overdevelopment.

We welcome any and all venues to get in touch if they would like to take part.

Are you interested in taking part in Doors Open Days this year?

All types of buildings, places and spaces are invited to take part. In previous years we've had churches, museums, community gardens, castles, and even wind turbines! All we ask is that you open for free, follow the community guidelines, and make sure you've covered safety protocols.
