Free access to thousands of buildings around Scotland every September. Tours, talks and more! This page was created with support from Event Scotland.

Doors Open Days is part of European Heritage Days, supported by Historic Environment Scotland. Area coordinators create and manage local programmes and work for a variety of local authorities, civic trusts and heritage organisations.

Doors Open Days 2026 has come to an end, and what a year it's been. From all of us at Scottish Civic Trust: thank you!

The Trust has coordinated the festival since 1990 and we've watched it grow into one of Scotland's best-loved annual events. It simply wouldn't happen without the volunteers across the country, who give their time and local knowledge so generously. Thank you to our regional coordinators and sponsors too, and to you, the Festival visitors, who turned out in droves to explore Scotland's historic places each weekend.

One of Edinburgh's most distinctive historic buildings, open it's doors tomorrow morning!🏛️

National Records of Scotland is inviting visitors into General Register House, one of the world's oldest purpose-built archive buildings still in use. Witness Robert Adam's spectacular Adam Dome, with NRS experts leading tours throughout the day and archivists present, sharing the stories behind Scotland's national archives.

It's also your last chance to catch the exhibition For the Safety of All: Scotland's Lighthouses, exploring the construction of Scotland's lighthouses and the lives of the keepers who guided sailors safely home.
