📚 Applications are open for children's and YA authors and illustrators, plus creatives working with young people to be a part of Storytale 2026. The festival will take place over the first weekend of October half term (Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th) in Bristol. We will also be running a schools programme in the lead up to the main festival.

It's hard to believe that we're nearly halfway through January, which means there's only a couple of weeks to go until the application window to apply to be a part of Storytale Festival 2026 closes! 👀

We welcome applications from YA and children's authors, illustrators and creatives of all backgrounds. We're Bristol's children's book festival with a focus on celebrating local talent and engaging children in the joy of reading, writing and being creative. ✨

The theme this year is PERSEVERANCE and we're excited to see how you interpret that. To apply to be an event host in the main festival (24th and 25th October) and/or an event host in our schools programme (which will take place in the week leading up to the festival), please head to our website to apply. 👀 The applications for chapter seven of Storytale Festival 2026 are now open. Head to our website to apply to be an event lead for the main festival and/or an event lead for an exciting schools programme we're planning on running in Bristol next year.

The festival theme is perseverance and we're open to however you wish to interpret it. It's a theme that resonates with the Storytale team. Pausing the festival in 2025 was our way of persevering with it, to allow us the time to evaluate the festival, to see how far we've come but to also figure out how to persevere and move forward creatively and sustainably. After a successful consultation and with a fourth director on board, we're excited about what 2026 will bring and we'd love to have YOU working with us next year!

Although there are so many beautiful new children's books out at this time of the year, it's always lovely to return to an old favourite. Alex T Smith's How Winston Delivered Christmas is a great way to countdown to the festive season by reading a chapter each evening until the 25th December. And at Storytale the team are counting down to our next festival! With a planning meeting later this week, we'll be getting the ball rolling for Storytale 2026 with applications to take part opening up in the new year. So watch this space!
