We’d like to thank each and every school district CUPE 606 member for their patience during this round of bargaining.
This round was by far the most gruelling round of bargaining we’ve witnessed in many years.
Your bargaining committee stood strong and didn’t accept any concessions.
While we hoped to come to a deal far before this, we also weren’t going to accept any deal just to get it done.
The committee fought back hard, and while there are some things we weren’t successful in achieving this round, we did come to a deal that we are satisfied with.
Unfortunately, our relationship with the employer has been damaged because of the way bargaining went.
There will be some much-needed repair work to be done with the employer moving forward, and we are committed to do that work.
School district support staff are the backbone of our school district and deserve to be treated with fairness and respect. We will continue to fight for that.
The ratification vote passed with 85% in favour.
Below is a highlight of some of the things that we, as well as the provincial committee, were able to bargain for:
Provincial Package:
Wage Increase - 3% per year, over four years, including July 1st, 2028. A total of 12%
Wage increase retroactivity - Retroactive pay from July 1st, 2025.
Public Education Benefits Trust – Major increase in the funding of PEBT to keep all our benefits running smoothly for the years to come. July 1st 2028 there is additional money set aside for more benefit improvements, which are to be determined.
Stronger contracting out language, as well as improved violence prevention and reporting language.
Labour Market Adjustment – CUPE 606 and SD68 will work together and apply for a labour market adjustment, that will be approved or denied by a provincial committee, for hard to fill jobs that are paid a lower standard than other comparable jobs in the area.
Local Bargaining:
As of July 1st, 2028, all current non instructional days will be paid.
