Some of our recent successes, an excerpt from our President's Letter by Tina Liao:
β We brought New York Times bestselling author Lisa See and wellness guru Dr. Andrew Weil for a book event and healthy Asian lunch as part of our Asian Health and Wellness Program.
β We hosted more than 2,000 local school children for field trips this year to visit our center and learn about Chinese culture and heritage.
β We partnered with for two enormously successful Asian Night Markets, and are working on planning future markets in even larger venues.
β Our Chinese Lion Dance Troupe is in higher demand than ever with two teams and dozens of performances at events in Tucson and Phoenix such as Panda Fest and the Arizona Snoop Dog AZ Bowl.
β Tucson Chinese School is developing programming to serve students from a local Mandarin immersion program that is shutting down. We also have a new program teaching new immigrants to read, write and speak English so they can better assimilate to our community.
β We are finishing a multi-year NIH All of Us health grant and received a $16,000 grant from the Arizona Commission on the Arts.
β We hosted major events at the center like the Japanese Festival and participated in major events in the community like Tucson Meet Yourself, and the University of Arizona Fall Prevention Workshop.
β After years of research, Dr. Howard Eng has published a book about Tucsonβs Chinese grocery stores, βPursuing the American Dream,β which is allowing multiple generations of local Chinese families to understand their history. We have had tours and lectures tied to the book, and Dr. Eng is donating all the proceeds from his sale to the Tucson Chinese Cultural Center.
