π¨πΎ MEET THE JUDGES πΎπ¨
Letβs meet our first judge for the 2026 Treasure Coast Police K-9 Competition!
π Sergeant Joe Rathnam
Port St. Lucie Police Department
Sergeant Joe Rathnam is a dedicated law enforcement professional with over 6 years of service at the Port St. Lucie Police Department.
Throughout his career, he has served in multiple roles including Road Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Uniform Crime Scene Investigator, SWAT/K9 Integration Liaison, Acting Sergeant, and SWAT Operator/Assistant Team Leader.
His expertise in tactical operations and SWAT/K9 integration comes from both professional experience and personal passion. Joe is also a founding member and Chief Operating Officer of ., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established following the tragic line-of-duty death of PBSO K9 Cigo. Through K9 Strong, Joe has worked tirelessly to provide law enforcement K9 teams with critical safety and training equipment.
Joeβs passion for working dogs began before his law enforcement career when he and his wife welcomed a home protection K9 into their family β a passion that has only continued to grow.
Working closely alongside his agencyβs K9 unit, Joe brings valuable insight into the realities these teams face every day, making him exceptionally qualified to judge the tactical precision, teamwork, and performance showcased on the competition field.
π¬ βI am honored to assist with this competition and hope it will showcase the incredible work these teams skillfully perform every day to keep their communities safe.β
