"Making a work en pointe for the first time offered me a different sense of risk and reward, ultimately producing a movement language that felt fresh, yet edgy, and satisfying all at once," shared choreographer Chavlar Monteiro on his work Passersby, created during the New York Choreographic Institute's August Session.

"What attracted me to this program had everything to do with the opportunity to build a work on, and be in dialogue with, some of the most proficient ballet artists. Before this program, I was looking for a vehicle to interrupt, or complicate the ways I enter and nurture my creative process."

"Even now, almost two months later, I’m still thinking about the work and the process, and finding new ways to continue bringing the piece to life," says choreographer Kaycee Cole, reflecting on My Name Is..., the work she created during the New York Choreographic Institute's August Session.

"One of the most meaningful parts of the NYCI process was having the opportunity to work with a dramaturg," Cole continues. "Having another set of eyes on the piece—someone who could ask thoughtful questions, offer perspective, and gently push me to keep digging—challenged me to think about the work in ways I may not have on my own. I really valued having someone to help me look beyond what was immediately in front of me and get more out of the piece."
