Auditioning for a co-star role in a procedural? Casting directors are often looking for actors who can simply come in, affect the other person, tell the story, and get the job done. You don’t need a huge beginning or ending to make an impact. You don’t need to get caught up in standing out as well.

Keep it simple, clean, and focus on advancing the story forward rather than making it about you. More often than not, those clean and grounded reads are exactly what books the job! ✨ 💎

Stillness on camera is powerful, but don't confuse it with stiffness! The secret to stillness actually comes from listening. When you're in an open state of receiving what you're hearing, your face and body naturally become less busy.

Remember something I've always said, which is stop trying to be interesting, and just be interested. When you genuinely care about the conversation, you instantly become captivating to watch. ✨ 💎

A great tip that helps if you really struggle with stillness is to put a piece of tape on the floor when rehearsing at home. Treat it like your mark on set. Try this technique for your next self-tape if you really struggle with being still.

We all know self-tapes require a clean presentation. So then what do you do if you’re living in a conversation where there’s a lot of chaos, a lot of hysteria, and some physicality that requires that?

In class, we tackled this exact problem. The solution is to keep your movements localized. Instead of running around, stand in one place and aggressively do the actions needed in the conversation. This focused physical action feeds the conversation’s intense emotion and intent while keeping you perfectly on camera.

Physicality should feed your performance, not distract the casting director. ✨ 💎
