What responsibility should studios and technology companies have when it comes to protecting performers' voices and likenesses? 👇 Let's discuss.

More than 17,000 performers and creators have signed a letter supporting the NO FAKES Act, legislation aimed at protecting individuals from unauthorized AI-generated replicas of their voice and likeness.

As AI continues to evolve, actors may need to understand more than performance and self-tapes. Digital likeness rights, consent provisions, usage rights, and contract language are becoming increasingly important parts of a professional acting career.

One of the best things you can do is trust yourself.
Recently, a parent shared that their child was encouraged to take liberties with the sides. Instead of worrying about every word, he made the dialogue feel natural to him, ad-libbed where appropriate, and had fun with it. The result? A performance that felt authentic, connected, and memorable. That's not a coincidence.

Focus on the storytelling.
Trust your instincts.
Have fun with it.

Believe in yourself that you did the work in order to tell the story while auditioning. You're doing better than you realize.

Many actors approach auditions by asking, "What can I do to make this conversation/ scene more interesting?"

A better question sometimes might be, "What does this scene actually need?"

Casting is watching your performance AND paying attention to whether you understand the tone of the show, the purpose of the conversation/ scene, and how your role serves the story.

Sometimes the strongest choice isn't the biggest one. It's the one that fits.

Always ask yourself: why? It’s the question that unlocks everything, such as your motivation, your meaning, and your message. Whether you’re breaking down sides, a script, or a play, knowing why you say something is what makes it land.

We have two ears and one mouth for a reason. The impetus to speak comes from what we hear. Listen first. Then speak with purpose.

Additionally, you must have a personal point of view based on the given circumstances. As Sanford Meisner calls it, the “pinch and the ouch” represents that emotional drive behind your response.

Never skip the “why” question. It means everything.

Talent will get you noticed. But professionalism? That's what gets you booked again.

It's not the most glamorous topic, but it might be the most important one for any actor serious about building a career. Casting offices are increasingly looking for performers who bring more than just skill to the table. Again and again, we hear the same feedback from casting directors about what sets bookable actors apart:

➡️ Fast communication: Responding promptly and clearly
➡️ Following instructions: Reading the breakdown and delivering exactly what's asked
➡️ Meeting deadlines: Submitting self-tapes and materials on time
➡️ Being prepared: Knowing the lines, understanding the role, doing the work
➡️ Being easy to work with: Bringing a positive, professional attitude to set

Casting directors want to work with people they can rely on, actors who make their jobs easier, not harder.

FAQ from actors: Should you send one take or two for your self-tapes? Here’s my advice...

Unless casting asks for two takes, stick to one. If they do ask for two takes, make sure they’re actually different. What seems to be ideal is to change the circumstances, not just the delivery.

For example, say you’re playing a guidance counselor who’s loving and empathetic. One take could show someone rushing between appointments, apologetic for the lack of time. The other? Fully present, unhurried, completely present. Same role. Totally different energy.

If the breakdown is really simple, such as it says something like “guidance counselor, 30s,” that’s your creative freedom. You can play someone deeply caring in one, and someone who’s done with the school year in the other.

Never send two takes that feel the same, because casting will notice and won’t be happy about it. ✨ 💎

Here is what it means for your career:

💛 The heart of a child: You have to be willing to play, open yourself up, and be vulnerable. When you watch kids play, they are 100% committed to the moment.

🦏 The skin of a rhinoceros: You cannot let rejection dictate whether you’re talented or not. Don’t let the “nos” get into your soul.

🐶 The tenacity of a pit bull: You have to be ferocious. Remember, it’s show business. It’s a billion-dollar industry, and you need that fierce drive to succeed.
