Another wonderful group of students! 👏

In this Intensive, we focused a lot on the relationship in each conversation (scene) and the stated vs. the unstated.

The relationship comes to life when you take your attention off yourself and put it on the other person. It’s about truly listening and finding what compels you to respond. Remember, as human beings, we react to what we hear, not what we say.

We also explored the power of what’s not being said. Actors often spend most of their preparation focused on the lines, but the real magic happens in the pauses. The thoughts, reactions, and unspoken moments between the words are where your creativity and individuality come to life.

So proud of everyone’s commitment, curiosity, and willingness to dig deeper into the work. Keep it up! 👏

Should you say yes to nudity? Will it hurt your career if you say no? Let’s talk about it! My answer is that only you can make that decision as the CEO of your creative career. Not your reps, not your family, not your actor friends. Once you show it, they can’t unshow it. That doesn’t make it right or wrong. It’s yours to decide.

Now if you’re worried that saying no means they’ll never call you in again? In 25 years, I have never, ever seen that be the case. ☺️❤️

The only issue is saying yes, then changing the game plan on set. That’s why they ask up front. They’re respecting you. And if you’re not on board, that is completely fine. 👍☺️❤️

There are two different kinds of sitcoms, plot-based and character-based. When you’re approaching a sitcom audition, it’s important to understand where the humor actually lies.

For example, television producer and writer Chuck Lorre has always been big on character-based sitcoms like Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, and Mike & Molly. In these shows, the funny comes from who these people are, not necessarily the plot.

As an actor, you have to discover your idiosyncrasies, how they’re written, and how those qualities are taken to an extreme to bring out the comedy.

Sometimes the funniest thing in a conversation (scene) isn’t what’s specifically happening, but who it’s happening to.

Something to remember the next time you’re working on a sitcom audition!

Energy is a byproduct of conflict.

You don't need to manufacture it or try to appear more energetic.

When you understand what you need from the other person, make that need incredibly important, and put yourself in the circumstances of the story, the energy will naturally follow.

And if you're wondering how to become more emotionally connected, that's where your imagination comes in.

Find what personally moves you within the story. Build the circumstances. Make them matter to you. Allow yourself to be genuinely affected by what's happening.

When your need is strong enough and your heart is involved, you won't have to push for energy. It will already be there.

Actors, the next time you're preparing a conversation, ask yourself: What do I really need from this person, and why does it matter so much to me?
