Announcing our 44th season: The Year of Desire — stories that are erotic, ecstatic, seeking, and defiantly q***r. Across three mainstage productions, Season 44 poses a single question —what if you got what you’re aching for? — as both invitation and dare, centering desire in all its forms: erotic, spiritual, ancestral, communal.
Three shows, three distinct voices, three different meditations about what we want. Together they insist that desire is plural, deeply human, and worth staging without apology.
First, the West Coast Premiere of HEAUX CHURCH - the Q***rty-nominated sermon of radical self-love, where the erotic and the sacred meet in conversation. Written and performed by Brandon Kyle Goodman, directed by Lisa Owaki Bierman and co-produced with The Elysian in association with Lena Waithe. Then Celebration’s acclaimed new-works program, TRANS LINEAGE, returns for a dynamic 5th year with three one-act World Premieres, co-produced with Outside In Theatre and directed by Nico Pang, all centered around the theme “Desire Lines”. And finally - the return of a big Spring musical with the hit off-Broadway sensation RIDE THE CYCLONE, directed by Michael Matthews.
Outside these mainstage shows, we are excited to continue to develop works such as Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj’s new play SWEET LORRAINE and staged readings though our Constellation Series - including the upcoming WTC VIEW directed by Michael Urie. It’s going to be a big year!
Q***r joy and q***r desire are not distractions from the fight - they are the fight. We can’t wait to be in community with you this season. Sign up for our newsletter for ticket drops and first announcements for these three shows and so much more.
