We were delighted to welcome HOPE Animal-Assisted Crisis Response teams from the Central Gulf Coast Region to Disasters Expo USA in Houston for the second year running!

From Steve and Nash to Lynn and Granite, Diane and Murphy, Pat and Bailey, and Linda and Jackson, alongside Team Leader Nancy, our attendees, exhibitors, speakers and partners adored interacting with you all.

A huge thank you to the HOPE AACR volunteers for joining us at this year’s Expo and for the valuable work they do supporting communities during times of crisis. We’re proud to help bring together the organisations and people making a difference in disaster preparedness, response and recovery.

Exhibitor Announcement: Phoenix Waste Solutions 📢

Natural Disasters Expo USA is excited to welcome Phoenix Waste Solutions to this year’s show.

Phoenix Waste Solutions delivers decentralised waste-to-energy technology built for disaster response, critical facilities, and remote communities. Their patented low-temperature plasma system processes mixed municipal waste on site without fossil fuels or landfills, reducing waste volume by more than 99% and converting it into clean energy and inert mineral ash suitable for low-carbon concrete. Housed in a ruggedised, containerised unit, it’s designed for rapid deployment and simple operation by local staff.

For emergency managers, that means restoring sanitation fast when conventional infrastructure fails, cutting public health risks and logistics burdens, and generating up to 30 kW of on-site power for shelters, field hospitals, and recovery hubs.

📢 Meet our newest Natural Disasters Expo Ambassador: Phelon Taylor!

Phelon brings a deep commitment to the families who are often left behind once the emergency response moves on, and a focus on helping them turn a roof over their heads back into a real home.

He is the Executive Director and Director of Disaster Operations at HUGGS Inc., a Missouri City-based nonprofit serving the Greater Houston area that acts as the “last mile” of disaster recovery, stabilizing households after fires, hurricanes and other disasters.

-Leads a case-managed, voucher-based recovery model providing essential furnishings, cleaning support for seniors and disabled adults, and disaster recovery assistance, with every dollar traceable and verifiable, earning HUGGS a Candid Platinum Seal of Transparency in 2025.

-Partners with the American Red Cross and the wider Texas Gulf Coast recovery network, picking up where shelter and immediate relief end so families impacted by apartment fires and storms like Hurricane Beryl can rebuild stability and dignity.

Phelon’s work sits at the intersection of disaster response and long-term recovery, making sure no family falls through the gap between immediate relief and getting back on their feet.

📢 Meet our newest Natural Disasters Expo Ambassador: Bryce Stefka, CSP!

Bryce brings more than a decade of construction and industrial safety experience and a passion for making sure every crew goes home safe, especially when the work is rebuilding the infrastructure communities depend on.

He is the Director of Safety at Sendero Industries, a Houston-based civil contractor specializing in site preparation, earthwork, drainage, utilities and underground detention systems for public and private projects across the Gulf Coast.

- Ssoned HSE professional with safety leadership roles across the Gulf Coast’s industrial and construction sectors, including Hargrove Engineers & Constructors, Turner Industries and plant turnaround projects, and previously serving as a Director of HSE.

- Hos a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, and now leads safety for a contractor whose drainage, detention and utility work helps Gulf Coast communities manage water and stand up to the next storm.

Bryce’s work sits at the intersection of construction safety and community resilience, making sure the people building and restoring critical infrastructure are protected while they help our communities prepare, respond and recover.

🌪️ Meet Aaron T. LeRoy, Disasters Expo Texas Ambassador!

Effective disaster preparedness relies on understanding evolving threats, managing risk and giving decision-makers the information they need to act.

Aaron T. LeRoy is a U.S. Air Force veteran and operational meteorologist with more than two decades of military and federal leadership experience spanning homeland security, continuity, hazard mitigation and enterprise risk management.

Throughout his career, Aaron has supported homeland defence operations, contributed to the Deepwater Horizon recovery response, managed complex operational risks and helped protect critical infrastructure and mission-critical installations.

He specialises in turning complex information and emerging threats into clear, actionable insights that support effective decision-making. His expertise also extends to public-assembly security, low-altitude airspace risk and counter-drone preparedness.

Based in San Antonio, Aaron serves as a Disasters Expo Texas Ambassador, bringing valuable experience across military operations, emergency preparedness and resilience.

Join us in Houston on 14–15 October to connect with industry leaders and explore new approaches to disaster preparedness, risk management and resilience.

We’re pleased to welcome Amanda Wagner, Technical Director of Emergency Preparedness at GHD, as an ambassador for Natural Disasters Expo USA. 🎉

Amanda has more than 20 years of experience in environmental response, emergency preparedness, regulatory compliance and incident management. She has supported and led operations during major wildfires, hurricanes, industrial fires and chemical and oil releases across the United States and U.S. territories. She also spent more than a decade supporting EPA emergency response programs, helping develop and train response personnel.

Today, she helps organizations build preparedness programs through practical planning, exercises and technical strategy. Her focus is closing the gap between preparedness plans and real-world operations, using lessons from the field.

Building resilience starts with understanding risk, learning from experience and preparing for the challenges ahead.

Lugine Gray is the Founder of Disaster Science LLC, a research and advisory practice focused on climate adaptation and systems-based resilience strategy.

A U.S. military veteran and Hurricane Katrina survivor, Lugine brings a unique perspective that combines frontline experience with specialist expertise in disaster resilience leadership. His work spans national training initiatives with the U.S. Department of Education and governor-appointed leadership roles in Louisiana, helping shape preparedness and policy across public, nonprofit and private sectors.

Peter brings more than 30 years of consultative experience and a passion for making sure public safety and first responder teams have the solutions they need to prepare, respond and recover when disaster strikes.

He is Director of Operations – Government, Public Safety & First Responder Solutions at Sendero Industries, a Houston-based full-service civil contractor supporting developers, municipalities and port authorities across the Gulf Coast and beyond.

Seasoned public safety technology leader, previously serving as a Senior Client Solutions Executive with AT&T, helping agencies strengthen the communications responders depend on.

Recognized for servant leadership in his work with AT&T’s AFREN Peer Ambassadors, engaging, encouraging and empowering the teams around him to succeed.

Peter’s work sits at the intersection of public safety and critical infrastructure, making sure that the agencies and first responders protecting our communities are backed by the planning, partners and capability to keep going through any disaster.
