DELL’AMORE OSCURO

The Sonetos del Amor Oscuro were written by García Lorca in 1935, one year before his death, as a series of love poems dedicated to Juan Ramírez de Lucas. Kept secret by Lorca’s family for decades, the sonnets only became publicly known in 1983, when a pirated edition brought them to light.

Dell’amore oscuro brings these intimate and passionate texts to the stage through a dialogue between dramaturgy, music and dance. Six performers, a live string quartet, an actor and a dancer, give body, voice and sound to Lorca’s words, exploring love, desire, vulnerability and longing. Written by a man for a man, the sonnets remain rooted in a specific story while opening up questions of love and desire that can be shared by everyone.

Romeo Castellucci comes back to Transart for the second year in a row with Credere alle Maschere, an installation performance first premiered at FOG Performing Arts at Triennale Milano. Fifty masks have been created for the performance, each one belonging to a person in the audience. In this wordless and immersive world of images, silence and ritual, spectators become part of a riddle that gradually turns their own gaze back onto them. At its centre stands a famous chair, carrying a long history of art and death.

The Transart Kids Program this edition focuses on the ancient Japanese practice of TAIKO during three days of workshops with Masakazu Nishimine ed Emiko Karayilmaz, culminating in a final concert with the workshop participants, preceeding the 太鼓 – TAIKO The Soul of Japanese Drumming by Masa-Daiko / Bremen 正太鼓.

.music comes back to Transart for the third time with his latest iteration of his long-standing interest in food and the systems that underpin it. It is his most explicit musical comment on social inequality and aims to contribute to raising the issue of increased food poverty in Britain today.

“On the one hand, I want this album to be a howl of rage against the injustice of so much poverty in such a wealthy country and the insanity of a broken system,” Herbert explains. “But I also want it to acknowledge the lived human experience of the people that are forced to use food banks and celebrate the thousands of people who routinely volunteer to operate them.”

Transart26 Opening CRASH with Haydn Orchestra

Transart26 opened with two groundbreaking works that transform the stage into a space of movement, memory and sonic exploration. Presented with the Haydn Orchestra from Fondazione Haydn Stiftung and conductor Vimbayi Kaziboni, the event brought together Simon Steen-Andersen’s Piano Concerto with Ning Yu and Michael Gordon & Bill Morrison’s Gotham: two powerful works where sound, images and technology collide to created a new kind of musical experience.

Florentina Holzinger’s STADION ÉTUDE, which is a satellite expansion of her Austria at the Venice Biennale contribution SEAWORLD VENICE at La Biennale di Venezia, dismantles the sports arena and completely transforms it for Festival Transart.

In Bozen’s Europastadium, a bell suspended from a hot air balloon rises across the sky. Its airborne resonance invokes the historic weight of church bells that have long demarcated territorial borders, spiritual discipline and localized identity.

Beneath it, the community-driven tradition of the Musikkapelle and the plucking of the Zither form the base of this site-specific composition, creating an echo between the old and the new.

Heavily rooted in regional Volksmusik, alpine motifs are taken up and reinterpreted: a sonic incantation that casts a strange spell over the mountain-surrounded valley, twisting timeless traditions into an apocalyptic rebirth where new myths are born from the ash of the old.

A CRASH opened this year’s festival edition.

Together with the Haydn Orchestra of Fondazione Haydn Stiftung, conducted by Vimbayi Kaziboni, two distinctive works took over the stage at Ex-Masten, breaking the rules in very different ways.

With Piano Concerto by Simon Steen-Andersen, we entered a world of fragility, transformation and endless possibilities of sound, with Ning Yu at the piano.

Then came Gotham by Michael Gordon and Bill Morrison: a vibrant flow of archival images of New York, set against a powerful and ever-evolving musical landscape.

And this is just the beginning: discover the next events at Festival Transart, 10—20 September 2026.
