Judging for the annual Root Crop Competitions have taken place with the standard of entries being noted as very high this year.

Richard Black, Fife Agricultural Association President, thanked Andrew Best (pictured) from Watson Seeds, who travelled round Fife to judge the fields of turnips and fodder beet, and also to the competition sponsors D. T. Stewart & Sons of Ceres and Yara UK Ltd, for their ongoing support.

RASC International: 31st Commonwealth Agriculture Conference will be held in Cape Town, South Africa (1-5 November 2026).

RHASS is able to support two individuals, providing a contribution of £500 per person towards attending the conference.

Please note that:
• Successful applicants will receive a contribution of £500 from RHASS.
• Individuals will be responsible for completing their own conference registration.
• Any costs exceeding the £500 contribution, including travel, accommodation, registration fees and other expenses, must be met by the individual.

The Fife Agricultural Association's annual Cereal Crop Competitions saw a total of 34 fields being judged over two days. There were good entries in the wheat class, with 12 entries.

Richard Black, the Association President, who along with David Aglen (Past-President), said “We had a great day travelling around the Fife countryside, looking at some excellent crops despite the dry conditions we've experienced this year. The quality of the entries was outstanding and reflects the high standard of farming across Fife”.

Our sincere thanks go to the judges for giving up their time to spend a busy day inspecting the fields - Derek Mathie an agronomist from D & D Mathie Limited who judged the winter barley; Euan Grewar, Dronley Farm, Dundee (spring barley); Hugh Black of Backboath Farm, Forfar (wheat); and Mike Arbuckle from Lundie Castle Farm, Angus who judged both the winter & spring oats.

The Association is also extremely grateful to the competition sponsors – Quaker Oats; D. T. Stewart & Sons of Ceres; GrainCo Ltd Scotland and Yara UK Ltd – for their ongoing support of the crop competitions.

The Best Overall Crop was the Cromwell field of winter oats entered by Dave Peebles of South Baldutho, Anstruther, who has been awarded the Danskin Cup.

Vintage tractors became a key element in the Fife Show as members of the Fife Vintage Agricultural Machinery Club came along to exhibit their prized possessions. Exhibiting opportunities were few and far between in the area in the early days, and this year, 2026, the Club is celebrating its 40th Anniversary.

There were so many fantastic tractors and vehicles on display at the Show and we are extremely grateful to have the support of Wilson Steven Transport Limited who very generously sponsor the Vintage Section.

🚜This year's winning tractor was the 1962 MF35 owned by Ken Addison from Ceres - who taken home the Gemza Trophy.

🚜The Vintage Club Grand Prize Draw was won by Angela Knott from Northern Ireland, who opted to take the cash alternative rather than the International B250 tractor on offer. Huge congratulations to Angela and the other prizewinners. Money raised from the raffle was going to support The Royal Highland Education Trust.

There were three Long-Service Awards made at this year's Fife Show, presented to employees within the farming community who have served for more than 30 years.

Mr W F Arnot, Area Director of RHASS (The Royal Highland & Agricultural Society of Scotland) and Richard Black, President of The Fife Agricultural Association made the awards to:
