🥇 What are you looking for in a winning entry?
A simple approach to solving a real, known challenge on farm. It should be a cost-effective solution that is easy to use and saves time.

💡 What advice would you give to businesses considering entering the awards for the first time?
Have a go. The experience of being involved, irrespective of whether you win or not will give you ideas to take home, and make you more experienced in life generally.

🎉 Why is it important for the industry to celebrate and showcase innovation through platforms like LAMMA?
Exposure to the industry in a unique way, and an insight into the machinery industry that could easily lead to opportunities not yet in existence.

Tim is reading through the entries submitted into Digital Technology Innovation of the Year. Here's what he thinks about the LAMMA Innovation Awards and what makes a stand out entry.

🥇 What are you looking for in a winning entry?
Something clever. Something new. Something that is going to help the every day farmer without incurring massive cost. Something well built and useful. Something safe and easily operated.

💡 What advice would you give to businesses considering entering the awards for the first time?
You can never put too much detail in the application for the award. Videos are great and tell a thousand words. All too often we get a description of the benefits of some device or other, without an actual description of what it is. Best to write the application starting from the problem to be solved and what the solution is. Don’t focus on the benefits right at the start of the application. Also – don’t underestimate your contribution to agriculture. Some people are put off because they think that their idea or concept is not worthy of an award. This is simply not the case and we like to see ideas and concepts from all walks of agriculture in all shapes and sizes. Let us be the judge not you.

🎉 Why is it important for the industry to celebrate and showcase innovation through platforms like LAMMA?
Celebration and showcasing provide positive feedback to the entrants and to the farming community. It shows what can be done and helps drive enthusiasm in the industry and within the sector. If we don’t celebrate success then it gets missed or is taken as nothing special, which leaves farmers and manufacturers involved in a very stagnant industry. The industry needs to change and move and celebrating incremental improvements and innovations is a way to achieve this.

Entries are now closed for the LAMMA Innovation Awards 2027, and our judges will soon be busy reviewing all your incredible entries.

While they deliberate, we’re launching our Meet the Judges series, putting your most pressing questions to the experts behind the awards.

First up is Richard Gueterbock, Director of Foodchains, agri-food innovation advisors.

🥇 What are you looking for in a winning entry?

I would hope to see a winning entry that offers a ground-breaking solution, that also has potential for widespread adoption on farms, once it becomes established on the market.

💡 What advice would you give to businesses considering entering the awards for the first time?

Try to demonstrate not only the extent of innovation in your product and its adoption potential across the farming sectors but also the impact it could have on farm operations and profitability.

🎉 Why is it important for the industry to celebrate and showcase innovation through platforms like LAMMA?

The farming industry is much more innovative and technically advanced than many people outside the industry realise (including politicians) and hence it is important to celebrate the companies that are driving technology innovation in response to the challenges the industry faces – including reducing its environmental impact and reliance on hydrocarbons.
