Rosch Haschana, das jüdische Neujahrsfest, beginnt am Freitag bei Sonnenuntergang. Es ist eine Zeit von tiefer Bedeutung und der Beginn einer Phase, in der Juden dazu aufgerufen sind, intensiv über ihr Handeln nachzudenken und nicht nur bei Gott, sondern auch bei anderen Menschen um Vergebung für ihr Fehlverhalten zu bitten. Diese besondere Zeit im jüdischen Kalender bietet die Gelegenheit, Bilanz über das vergangene Jahr zu ziehen und Vorsätze für die Zukunft zu fassen. = Shana tova!
Rosh HaShana, or the Jewish New Year, begins at sundown on Friday. It’s a deeply meaningful time and the start of a period when Jews are told to think deeply on their actions and to ask forgiveness not only from God but from other human beings for wrongdoing.
This special period in the Jewish calendar is an opportunity to take stock of what has happened over the past year and set intentions for what we want to see happen in the future. Let us use this time of rebirth (the new year is the anniversary of the creation of the world, according to Jewish tradition) to reaffirm the kind of world we want to live in – one of peace, equality, and justice for all.
Every single one of us on this land deserves to see that reality and to be part of building it. Because only together, as Jews and Palestinians on the ground in partnership, will we actually make it happen.
