Edmonton Short Film Festival The Edmonton Short Film Festival is a unique festival presented to showcase Alberta short films.

The Edmonton Short Film Festival was created to offer a venue for independent Alberta filmmakers to screen their short films. Since its inception in 2013, the ESFF has grown to include opportunities for filmmakers to learn and connect with each other.

Our annual 48hr Mobile Device Filmmaking Challenge runs from 6PM Friday, May 22 to 6PM Sunday, May 24, so grab your friends, family, and film crew for an unforgettable weekend of indie filmmaking, storytelling, and creative chaos!

This FREE filmmaking competition is open to all Alberta residents. In just 48 hours, you’ll create a screenplay, shoot on a mobile device, edit, and deliver a completed short film. 📱🎞️

Pre-register now to receive the 3 secret filmmaking elements emailed at 6PM Friday. Every film must include them! Films can be shot anywhere in Alberta using a mobile device.

All completed films will be screened during our online watch party on Sunday, May 31, with winners announced live! 🏆

Awards include:

🎬 Best Marketed Film
🎬 Best First Time Filmmaker

The FREE 48hr Mobile Device Filmmaking Challenge is coming up soon! Get your friends and family together for a weekend of filmmaking fun and earn the opportunity to get your film screened at the 2026 Edmonton Short Film Festival!

This is a free event open to all Alberta residents. In 48 hours, you are tasked with writing a screenplay, shooting, editing, and delivering a 2 minute finished film. You must pre-register to have 3 secret elements emailed to you at 6pm May 22, which must be included in your film.

All finished films will be screened on May 31 via an online watch party! 4 awards will be given out at the end, and the award-winning films will be screened at our 2026 Gala in October!
