“My paintings explore the idea of belonging and what it means to exist between cultures. I use a combination of direct observation and photographic references to build pictorial spaces that merge elements of surrealism and realism. These spaces act as bridges between memory and imagination, inviting reflection on identity and the complex experience of cultural hybridity.”

See 'It's Hard to Express’ on view now at the Don Wheaton YMCA, 10211 102 Ave NW. Building hours are 5:30AM-9:00PM Monday-Friday and 7:00AM-9:00PM on weekends.

"The Works is a place to connect, learn, and build community with like-minded people. I have never felt so supported in a workplace as I do here, and not only have I grown as an artist and creative, but I have also grown as a professional. I am better able to exist in our interconnected world as a respectful, considerate, and confident individual."
-Amy Pretorius, Volunteer Admin Intern, 2024, 2025

🔙 From the Archives. In 2008 The Works Festival featured “The Rainbow South Gateway Project” by Dean Stanton.

This exhibit misted patrons as they entered the Festival grounds, providing a nice reprieve from Edmonton’s summer heat!

"The [Works2Work Internship] is an opportunity for emerging artists to come together and work towards building the wider Edmonton art community. It reminds us of our priorities as artists, students, designers in working with the many hats we wear and understanding our roles on a bigger scale. This internship allowed me to learn in an unexpected and different manner that encouraged my education in school and prepared me for my final years of my degree with the many skills and capacities I have built." - Mayada 2024 Design Intern
