LOCAL TALENT Takes Centre Stage at the 2026 Screen Music Awards.

There’s nothing quite like seeing people with connections to our own little corner of the world achieving great things, and the recent 2026 Screen Music Awards have given us plenty of reasons to celebrate!

Two of the awards’ success stories have links to the Perth Hills, with former Darlingtonian Piers Burbrook de Vere taking home a major film music award, while siblings Joni and Josh Hogan (originally from Parkerville) were also among the winners.

It’s a lovely reminder that creative talent from our own backyard can go on to make its mark on the national stage.

Piers Burbrook de Vere attended Helena College Junior School before moving to Canberra with his family. Piers won Feature Film Score of the Year alongside Rose Mackenzie-Peterson for their work on the romantic comedy Addition.

Joni Hogan shared in the award for Best Original Song Composed for the Screen for Nothing Stays the Same, written with her brother Josh Hogan and Ned Beckley for the ABC animated series Tales from Outer Suburbia. Joni and Josh grew up in Parkerville and attended local schools, and Joni played our little festival in 2018 with her band Joni in the Moon. The series took home four awards!

From our local schoolyards to Australia's screen music spotlight, it's wonderful to see Perth Hills talent getting the recognition it deserves. Congratulations to everyone involved!

Hey y'all! You're in for a treat cos you can catch one of the acts playing at this year's Day in The Forrest just up the hill from us. The Front Porch Serenaders are hitting the stage at the Chidlow Tav tomorrow 25 October, bringing their signature foot-tapping tunes and Howie's unmistakable mouth harp sound to the Hills. And really, you just gotta love that sound....12.30pm to 3.30pm. Be there - and support live local music and make an afternoon of it.

Our Beno was once the Pres of the Darlington Dipsticks (he wears many hats!). Anyway, we are sharing this for our Dipsticks mates, and hope that some of you can head down to Darlington next Saturday arvo for a really chilled afternoon on the green. Here's their blurb.

This time next week, come and groove with us at Darlington Hall!

Get ready for a great afternoon of music, classic cars, family fun and good old-fashioned car talk. Take a stroll through our fascinating display of cars from across the ages, then grab the kids an ice cream while you chat with our passionate car enthusiasts about the wheels they love.

Want to make an outing of it? Join our scenic run from Lake Leschenaultia to Darlington Hall. Meet us at the Lake (in your car) from 11.30am, where our run leaders Gail and Richard will guide everyone back to the Hall.

It’s a wonderful chance to introduce the kids to some old-school wheels and discover just how much character cars used to have!

And if you're secretly (or not so secretly!) hankering after an old car yourself, keep an eye out for the gorgeous yellow sports model for sale among the display. You certainly won’t miss it!

There’ll also be groovy little remote-control cars for the kids to have a go at, courtesy of Mal and Dave, plus light refreshments for everyone.

So polish up your sunnies, bring the family and come and enjoy a relaxed afternoon of cars, music and community at Darlo Hall.

If we could get these guys to DITF we would ..but we can't....but for all you Leonard Cohen fans who want to celebrate his life and music during the 10 year anniversary of his passing, go see these guys! Former West Oz musician Yaron Hallis and his Triple ARIA Award winning Monsieur Camembert deliver a big juicy performance of Cohen's music, with a band of consummate musicians, extraordinary vocalists, and a large local community choir. Playing the Astor Theatre on October 10.
