Darlington Arts Festival is delighted to announce the winner of the Open Art Exhibition People's Choice winner for 2025 is Indiarna Catlin with her work, Rapunzel with more than 50 votes from a total cast of just over 600. Indiarna says: Growing up mixed race and between cultures, I became acutely aware from a young age of how infrequently Asian identities were positioned as protagonists within Western media. The recent discourse surrounding a live action remake of the Brothers Grimm’s Rapunzel prompted me to reimagine how this classic tale would be expressed through a lens that offers visibility to these historically underrepresented communities. This work seeks to foreground South Asian representation, honouring traditional jewellery, attire, and adornments, while confronting established visual narratives and asserting that stories from diverse perspectives are not deviations, but are essential for affirming the identities and voices of marginalised demographics. This prize is proudly sponsored by The Darlington Review. Congratulations Indiarna!

Darlington Arts Festival is thrilled to share the 2025 Open Art Exhibition Best Use of Materials winner, Harry Young, with his work Under the Forbidden Skate Ramp: Wellington Street Exchange. According to the judges, this artwork shows an exquisite use of material, with a thoughtful connection to brutalist architecture. It is a cool, contemporary work that playfully celebrates a Perth icon through a surprising yet perfectly apt material — concrete. Congratulations

All three judges were instantly drawn to this artwork, The bottom of Hillsden Road. They loved its beautiful colour palette coined as “quintessentially hills-burbia.” This artwork has a well-balanced composition, beautiful colour palette and a strong sense of place. Darlington Arts Festival is thrilled to share the winner of Best in Show for our Open Art Exhibition in 2025 is Sarah Keirle with her work 'Releasing.' Sarah says: The bursting Banksia Menziesii seedpods represent the regeneration and disbursement of new life which is critical after natural disasters like bushfire. The judges praised this work for its stunning use of materials with a dry, Australian essence and beautifully resolved presentation of the vessel. This piece stands out for its divergence from representation — retaining key elements that connect it to our bush environment, yet equally comfortable as a contemporary sculpture. Congratulations Sarah!
