✨ St. Pete Reads! Lit Fest 2026 FEATURED EVENT ✨

🎨✨ We are excited to welcome award-winning illustrator R. Gregory Christie to St. Pete Reads! Lit Fest!

Join Mr. Christie at 3 PM for Draw with R. Gregory Christie, a hands-on drawing workshop where youth and families can create alongside him.

Mr. Christie will also join the Al Downing Tampa Bay Jazz Association for a special reading of Jazz Baby, written by Lisa Wheeler and illustrated by Mr. Christie, with live jazz accompaniment. 🎷📚🎨

Come draw with Mr. Christie, hear Jazz Baby brought to life with live jazz and spend some time with the artist behind so many books we love!

| Mr. Christie has illustrated more than 70 books for children and young adults, including Jazz Baby, The Book Itch, No Crystal Stair, Bad News for Outlaws, Coretta’s Journey and Freedom in Congo Square.
His work has earned the 2026 Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award for The Library in the Woods, a Caldecott Honor, six Coretta Scott King Honors, an NAACP Image Award and two New York Times Best Illustrated Book awards.
His art reaches beyond the page, too. Mr. Christie designed the 2013 Kwanzaa stamp for the U.S. Postal Service and has created album art for musicians including John Coltrane, George Benson and Joe Sample.

This afternoon, as we prepare for St. Pete Reads! Lit Fest 2026 we stopped by The Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum of Florida with Bookish and Bonita and Word Is Bond Books for an insightful tour with Woodson’s Program Manager, Taylor McCray Honor.

One of the things we love about holding St. Pete Reads! Lit Fest at The Woodson is that your day doesn’t have to stop in the Legacy Garden. The museum gallery will be open from 10 am -2 pm during Lit Fest, so make time to step inside and see Many Voices, One Nation – Our Community currently on view.

The exhibition brings together Smithsonian resources with stories from our local community, connecting the history of St. Pete and the Gulf Coast to the larger American story.

Come for the books, stories, art and community outside, and take some time to experience the history, stories and culture inside The Woodson, too. 💙📚
