ABOUT: Trumpeter and vocalist Sonny Singh and guitarist-composer Ria Modak create South Asian diasporic music that channels ancestral wisdom into a call for love, devotion, and courage in turbulent times. Singh, celebrated for his bold and joyous musical innovation, has been praised for “chart[ing] new ground” with his critically acclaimed solo debut Chardi Kala, blending Indian devotional traditions with Western pop and brass-driven arrangements. Modak, a historian, composer, and translator from New York, brings a richly interdisciplinary practice shaped by collaborations with artists including Ali Sethi, Vijay Iyer, and Paquito D’Rivera, with performances at venues from Lincoln Center to BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Together, they offer a vibrant and deeply rooted musical experience that bridges tradition, experimentation, and collective joy.

If you’re a composer looking to workshop and refine your developing opera on a grand scale, the VOX application is your chance.

Eligible works must not have received a United States premiere (excluding college and festival orchestra performances, or readings associated with composer advancement programs hosted by other institutions). Both completed operas and works-in-progress will be considered, provided the application includes an excerpt of at least 20 minutes in length.

Crème is a genre-bending Alt-R&B force and lovechild of Wayne Wilson. A singer-songwriter inspired by the storytelling of Frank Ocean and Joni Mitchell, He blends emotional vulnerability with melodic underpinnings. Emerging from the heart of Brooklyn, NY; He has appeared on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert with Daniel Caesar and has been a background vocalist for Usher, Kanye West, and Machine Gun Kelly, and recently performed on the red carpet at the 2025 Met Gala.

JACKSON SCOTT WALTER

A virtuosic flamenco guitarist, vocalist, and composer, Jackson brings a global perspective to our Lobby Stage, shaped by extensive touring across Europe, Russia, the Middle East, India, the United States, and South America. Now based in New York City, he has become a dynamic presence on the trad jazz scene, resurrecting overlooked gems from the Great American Songbook alongside world-class collaborators from New Orleans and South America. Prior to his arrival in New York, Jackson spent eight years in London as the frontman of the group Mano de Dios, honing a sound that bridges tradition, improvisation, and international influence.
