I'm an educator, an artist, and a Black woman, and I'm going to say something uncomfortable.

We have a generation being sold a version of Black life through music and popular culture that is not reality.

The flex is the product.
The lifestyle is the product.
The attention is the product.

Meanwhile, we're watching people chase an image that can leave them with no ownership, no savings, no education, no political power and no safety net.

And that's heartbreaking because our ancestors fought for tools that didn't exist for them.

Literacy.
Education.
Voting rights.
Black businesses.
Political representation.
The ability to own property and build institutions.

Harriet Tubman wasn't risking her life so we could spend ours trying to look rich for an algorithm.

Ruby Bridges wasn't walking into that school so the next generation could be told education isn't important.

Harry and Harriette Moore weren't organizing Black voters so we could say politics doesn't matter.

They were building exits.

So stop letting an industry sell you a lifestyle.

Learn the tools.
Build something.
Own something.
Vote.
Read.
Research.

Harry and Harriette Moore were Black educators who organized Black voters in Florida when doing that work could get you killed.

And it did.

A bomb was planted under their home on Christmas night in 1951. Harry died from his injuries. Harriette died days later.

They sacrificed their lives for a political voice.
So when I see young Black people online saying politics doesn't matter, voting doesn't matter, or knowing our history doesn't matter....

I need you to understand what somebody else paid for the rights you're casually dismissing.

Because freedom isn't looking free.

Freedom is having options.

It's kinda chic standing up for BLACK HISTORY!

Every new artist looks at the blueprints of legends like Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Nicki Minaj, and Drake. They built entire empires just by hijacking other people's instrumentals on mixtapes like No Ceilings or Beam Me Up Scotty. It’s easy to look back and think they had it easier because they could drop a viral remix without a single copyright strike.

But trying to clone that exact come-up today is a trap. With advanced Content ID and aggressive label takedowns, dropping an unapproved freestyle over a radio hit will get your track muted or your page flagged before it even catches a buzz.

The gatekeepers changed the locks, but that just means we have to build our own doors.

Here at Indie Circus, we believe the blueprint isn't deadβ€”it just evolved. You don’t need their instrumentals to prove your pen is elite.

Focus on sourcing royalty-free loops, collaborating with underground producers, and building a catalog that you completely own.

The industry can block a beat, but they can't block your work ethic. Stop chasing their tracks and start circus-sizing your own sound. πŸŽͺ🎧πŸ’₯
