Gotu kola (scientific name: *Centella asiatica*) is a medicinal plant native to Asia. It is a perennial creeping herb that spreads along the ground, favoring moist environments and developing fibrous roots at its nodes. The plant features simple leaves with long stalks, holding the leaves upright like an open umbrella; the leaves are round with scalloped edges and smooth surfaces, though the undersides bear fine, short hairs. Flowers appear in clusters—typically two or three clusters per node—with each cluster containing three to four flowers, each possessing five petals. Gotu kola leaves accelerate wound healing and reduce inflammation, thanks to active compounds such as madecassic acid, asiatic acid, and asiaticoside. Modern pharmaceutical preparations include creams, wound powders, and oral tablets used to treat fresh wounds and surgical incisions, as well as burns and abscesses. Traditional usage involves crushing fresh leaves and stems to extract the juice for consumption three to four times daily, or applying the pulp directly to the wound.
