Hello everyone,
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we are announcing the cancellation of the Barrio Block party on April 4th at the Vortex.

Everyone's health, spirit, and mind is what we strive to support and heal. Tia Chucha's theatrical ensemble and "Always Running The Play" will continue to heal those in trauma through art and acting for the future. This pandemic is hurting everyone, including our artistic community and culture. We believe more now than ever, we need art; to give the human soul hope. This is not over. This is hasta al rato.

Sammy Carrera- a community advocate, poet, and Boyle Heights native has organized gang-involved youth, and began performing spoken word poetry at Corazon Del Pueblo, a community center which introduced him to grassroots organizing in 2010. Eventually he would become a board member. He has performed at Central Juvenile Hall and other juvenile placement facilities.

Rufino Romero a native son to Los Angeles, CA. Born & raised in Hollywood with family ranging from Echo Park to Compton. Rufino is a SAG-AFTRA actor who has performed in many projects such as films "In Echo Park," commercials for Modelo Especial & Subway, theatrical performances for Casa 0101's "Brown & Out" "Chicano Cholas y Chismes." A series regular to a new digital series "East of La Brea" produced by Paul Feig. And his greatest feat, so far, is taking the lead in performing as Luis "Chin" J. Rodriguez in the critically acclaimed play "Always Running."

Alexa Ortiz is from Watsonville, a small town located in Northern California. She comes from a very loving and supportive family. She is currently attending California State University of Los Angeles and will be graduating this spring. She is pursuing her passion in theater and hopes to learn more about the industry. She plans to become more involved in the Latinx theater community and desires to make a change through her work. Alexa wants to experiment with various forms of art and strives to continue flourishing as an artist.

Born in Monterey Park and raised in the Pico Rivera area, Joshua is a graduate from Cal State Long Beach, where he studied acting and screenwriting. He has been in a number of short films and stage productions. Currently, he is working on finishing his latest project, a musical comedy which he wrote and stars in, that deals with revenge, fear, and courage. Much love to everyone. Love each other. Be kind. A theatre actress of 6 years, Rachel has done Shakespeare and has acted in a number of original works such as “Patron Saint of the Suburbs” written by Max Marsh and “Trainwreck” written by Bree Pavey. A loving thank you to the LOFT Ensemble for helping her grow as an artist and as a human being. She’s also starred as Viviana in “Always Running”, a stage adaptation of the 1994 memoir written by Luis Rodriguez. Rachel is also a singer. Disturbing the neighbors since 2001 and proud!

Tia Chucha presents the barrio block party A fundraising event for Tia Chucha's new Theatrical Ensemble. This fundraiser is to help heal many people around the world and foster a process to heal trauma. The way Tia Chucha's ensemble is doing this, is through brining Always Running the play to the Fringe Festival, which will be performing in June. The fund will assist the ensemble in fulfilling financial challenges to bring the best set design, crew, actors, wardrobe and venue. Join us on our journey to heal trauma through art and truthful expression of the human condition.
