The World War II Pointe du Hoc Ranger Monument is located on a cliff eight miles west of Normandy American Cemetery, which overlooks Omaha Beach, France.

It was erected by the French to honor elements of the American Second Ranger Battalion under the command of Lt. Col. James E. Rudder. During the American assault of Omaha and Utah beaches on June 6, 1944, these U.S. Army Rangers scaled the 100-foot cliffs and seized the German artillery pieces that could have fired on the American landing troops at Omaha and Utah beaches.

Today the Mogadishu Mile Kentucky remembers Sergeant Cornell Lemont Houston Sr. Who served with the 10th Mountain Division and was critically wounded during the Battle of Mogadishu on October 3, 1993, and died days later. He was known for his heroic sacrifice while saving another soldier. Born in Mobile, Alabama, he served in the 41st Engineering Battalion and became a hero for giving his life to protect a comrade.

Mogadishu Mile Kentucky Director Samuel Deeds left a Mogadishu Mile Kentucky coin at his gravesite and spoke his name.

Rest in Peace brother. You are not forgotten.

At any given time roughly 1% of the current US population is serving in the Armed Forces. Since WWI roughly 6-7% have served. They are the minority . They are the brave souls who kept evil at bay.

Each and every service member takes an oath stating that they would support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic;…. That oath comes with a heavy price. One of blood, sweat, tears and sometimes their life. Let us not forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Happy Veterans Day to all the men and women who have served this great country.
