If you are a resident of Butler County, Kansas, Open Class is for you! 🙌🏻

The 2026 Fair King and Fair Queen contest is open to active Butler County 4-H and/or FFA members who are between 15 and ...

The 2026 Fair King and Fair Queen contest is open to active Butler County 4-H and/or FFA members who are between 15 and 18 years old as of January 1, 2026.
Any individual who has previously been crowned Fair King or Fair Queen is not eligible to compete in the contest again.
A minimum of two eligible applicants is required for a contest to be held. If fewer than two candidates apply and complete the interview portion of the contest, or if a candidate withdraws and fewer than two contestants remain, that contest will be cancelled. The King and Queen contests are considered separate contests for this purpose.

Application Deadline: Friday, July 3, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
All application materials must be received by this deadline.

Interviews: Saturday, July 11, 2026
Crowning Ceremony: Monday, July 20, 2026, Prior to the Livestock Sale

Applications must be submitted online using the official Google Form.
The application form can be accessed on the Butler County Fair Board page.
All required materials listed below must be uploaded through the Google Form by the application deadline. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that all required documents are submitted completely and on time. Incomplete applications may not be considered.

4-H Permanent Record or FFA AET Record: Submit a complete record that includes all years of 4-H and/or FFA membership.

Cover Letter: Your cover letter should introduce yourself, highlight your qualifications and experiences, and explain why you are the best candidate for Fair King or Fair Queen. You are encouraged to write and format the letter in a way that reflects both your project work and your personality.

Requirements:
Maximum of one page
Grammatically correct and free of spelling errors
Include a signature block and handwritten signature

Resume: The resume should cover at least the past four years and include a personal objective statement. It should highlight your involvement and accomplishments in 4-H, FFA, school, and community activities, as well as leadership roles, community service, and achievements.
Requirements:
Maximum of two pages
References are not required
Format as desired

Reference Letter: Submit one letter of recommendation from an unrelated 4-H leader, FFA advisor, or teacher.

Captioned Pictures: Submit two pages of captioned photographs that demonstrate your 4-H and/or FFA learning, leadership, and citizenship experiences.
Requirements:
Up to six photos per page; Maximum of two pages

Biography: The biography will be used for publicity during and after the contest. It must be written in the third person and be between 100 and 150 words to include:
Name
4-H Club and/or FFA Chapter
Accomplishments and awards in 4-H and/or FFA
School and current grade level
School and community activities
Parents' names
Future plans

Headshot: Submit a recent headshot for use in publicity during and after the contest.

All submitted photographs, headshots, biographies, and related publicity materials become the property of the Butler County Fair Board and may be used for promotional and publicity purposes related to the Butler County Fair.

Deadline: All application materials must be received by 5:00 p.m. on July 3, 2026.

Important: Applications missing any required item will be disqualified.
