Send Steve a birthday card!

To all members,

In celebration of Steve Melnikoff’s 106th birthday (11/28/1919) —one of the last known D-Day veterans of the Battle of Normandy—we invite you to send birthday cards to the address below.

We will do our utmost to help Steve respond to each card he receives.

For those who may not know, Steve has proudly served as an Ambassador of The Greatest Generations Foundation, tirelessly advocating for the heroes of World War II.

Over the past year, he has endured one of the most difficult periods of his life, having laid to rest his last two children. Yet, as he told me just last week, “we must keep moving life forward.”

Steve’s wartime service is extraordinary. He landed on Omaha Beach with the famed 29th Division on D-Day, was seriously wounded ten days later by a machine-gun strike to the throat, and returned to action after recovering. He was wounded again during the Battle of Brest, returned once more in December 1944 for the Battle of the Bulge, and ultimately advanced all the way to the Elbe River, where U.S. forces linked up with the Russians.

Please send birthday cards to:
Steve Melnikoff
601 Paulina Rd
Jupiter, Florida 33477

With kindest regards,
The Greatest Generations Foundation

Unfortunately after 21 years, the WWII battle reenactment held the third weekend of November at Peru, KS (known as the Battle in the Brickyard) has become a politicized, invite-only event. The event organizers want your modern political views to align with theirs in order for you to participate. As such, we can no longer support this event. We pride ourselves in being apolitical, as is required by the WWII History Center's 501c3 nonprofit status.

We will no longer attend or support this event.

Because of the irresponsible actions of the event organizers, we recommend no one else support this event either. Your not attending will send the organizers the message that politics does not belong in reenacting.

We proudly hosted and advertised the event's webpage and facebook events for 16 years. Sadly, that ends now. The event webpage and all media have been removed from our website.

Spread the word. Peru's Battle in the Brickyard reenactment is no more.
