π¨ No parent should ever learn days or weeks later that their child was restrained or isolated at school!
Thatβs why I introduced the Student Safety and Dignity in Schools Act β legislation to protect students with disabilities and ensure transparency, accountability, and respect in every school across New York.
π This bill will:
β
Require same-school-day parent notification whenever restraint, force, or isolation-type interventions are used
β
Prohibit confinement practices, including placing a child in a box or enclosed space
β
Set clear statewide standards for restraint, force, and behavioral interventions
β
Require independent review of serious incidents involving students with disabilities
β
Guarantee parents timely access to incident reports and related photos or video
β
Improve statewide reporting and oversight to prevent future harm
These protections should never depend on where a child goes to school. Every student deserves safety, dignity, and respect β and every parent deserves to be informed.
