Review from a client.
After having some time to reflect on Yesterday's class with Janna and Charlie Gautier here’s my Official Bert Winfield Review.
What I saw for Janna. When we got there she was a little anxious. And rightfully so as she’s never done anything like this with a fi***rm before. Yes she absolutely knew how to operate her fi***rm safely and she knows all the safety rules. She’s not new to shooting but was definitely new to Gun Fighting. Charlie treated her with the utmost respect and spoke to her in a manner where she was easily able to grasp everything he was teaching her. He was constantly motivating her to push her limits and making her step out of her comfort zone and improve. At one point she was so into it she was practically pushing me out of the way so she could get more trigger time. By the end of the day he had her clearing the shoot house and she has never done anything like that ever. The video shows her putting all days lessons into practice.
Now, what I saw for myself. I’m a former Military Police officer with the US Army. I was trained on handgun fighting through the military and I’ve had the privilege of working and training with Military’s from other nations as well. After the Military I went through Florida State’s Police Training course, I’ve taken numerous handgun courses over the years from a varying instructors, and I’ve been active in shooting sports since the age of 8. Charlie literally rocked all of my previous instruction and training to its core. I honestly don’t know where to start here without turning this post into a novel. Charlie forced me to look all of my previous training with fresh eyes. There were so many techniques that he was showing me and we literally debated them (respectfully of course) and he had the answers for all of my questions. By no means was he full of hot air either. Not only did he tell me the answers he also applied them in real life scenarios for me to witness and respectfully pointed out where what I had previously been trained was flawed in so many ways. Janna and I without a doubt will be training more with Charlie in the days to come.
To my Quest friends. If you carry a fi***rm or are even contemplating it you have to take this class. I was utterly amazed how many of our To Shin Do principles Charlie was teaching without him even realizing it. From unified body movement to proper base even to properly applied Hicho. Charlie I know you probably didn’t get that part. I’ll explain it to you over a b**r when I see you next.
As for Charlie. He is as passionate an instructor as I have met. He was humble and patient and downright friendly. He never once talked down us or even looked frustrated. You could just tell he absolutely loves what he does as a teacher and we loved being his students. He is the type of man that you want having your back and I don't mean just in a gun fight but in life as well.
Charlie from the bottom of my heart Thank You so much. I look eagerly forward to the day I can shoot with you again.
