The final countdown is on. Today I’m flying from Barcelona to Orlando for the Talent Development Think Tank conference, which kicks off Tuesday afternoon. Follow us here to see what it’s all about!

I’m excited to get back to my hometown and see my family (will be staying with my mom tonight and tomorrow) and then to see so many friends coming into Orlando for this little conference we’ve put together.

Most of the prep is done and logistics are worked out (thanks to on my team who manages all of that) and details shared with the hotel.

We are just working out a few details on some new benefits I’m adding in like topical “roundtable” discussions during meals and an optional yoga class on Thursday morning (gotta stay healthy!).

I also went shopping last night with my daughter and she helped me pick out some new clothes for the occasion. I wish she was coming with me to see it all in action but it was a bit much to fly from Barcelona and miss a week of school. Hopefully in the future.

This is going to be an epic week. See you in Orlando!

And for those that are not coming:
a) we have an option to buy keynote recordings on our website
b) I’ll be sharing plenty of updates on here with the help of my friend who will be running our social media for the third time. She’s the best!

Happy Saturday! 🎉

We are just 16 days away from the Talent Development Think Tank conference and I’m so grateful to have the trust and support of these amazing sponsors who jumped on board to support our event and help make it possible.

Most companies and L&D teams cannot do everything on their own. They know that to provide truly great development opportunities to their people, they need to consult and bring in outside providers.

I’ve been fortunate to be trusted by many companies to support them with career and leadership development. I’ve also been fortunate to develop relationships with many different learning solution providers over the years.

And these companies here are some of the absolute best.

Thank you to our premier sponsor, Coursera as well as our other fantastic sponsors, Learnit, Connected Approach Partners, Talent Physics, and Experience It as well as The Talent Development Hot Seat podcast.

And special thank you specifically to the people behind the companies who are making this happen: Laura Harrison and Charlotte Evans from Coursera, Damon Lembi, Chris Curtin, Matt Prostko, and Don Jones.

And for the second year in a row, we are excited to support Meals in the Meantime run by Kevin M. Yates as our official nonprofit of the Talent Development Think Tank conference.

I am grateful to each of these people, their companies, and their support.

And I’m excited to bring together some fantastic speakers, facilitators, and attendees for some engaging discussions about talent development in two weeks!

We still have tickets left for the event and if you can’t make it, we also have a virtual pass available. Check out our website for more info. 🎟️TDTT.US

The most valuable thing to come out of a conference or event is the connections and relationships that are built.

And yet most conferences and events do nothing to try to create or foster those connections. Often they barely provide breaks or any opportunities to connect with others. Instead they are just shuffling people from one presentation (usually sponsored) to the next.

After attending too many of these boring conferences, we knew there had to be a better way.

So in 2019, Bennett Phillips and Andy Storch created the first ever Talent Development Think Tank conference.

They knew it would be a huge undertaking but also knew the opportunity was huge to create an event that people loved, where they learned from each other and built great relationships.

It took a lot of planning and work, but they booked some amazing speakers and facilitators, planning an outstanding event, and sold out of tickets to the first conference, which ended up taking place in Sonoma in January 2020. And it was a hit!

People loved it. Said it was the best conference they ever attended.

After a break, Andy brought the conference back again in 2023 with outstanding speakers and again glowing feedback.

And we are excited to announce that we are bringing the conference back this year for a third time - on November 6-7 in sunny Orlando, Florida.

We have some amazing speakers lined up including returning speakers like Claude Silver Kevin M. Yates Don Jones Charlotte Evans and Dr. Mechelle Roberthon, CPTD, MCCT, MOS Lauren V. Davis (LVD) and as well as new speakers like Eric Girard Al Dea Matt Gjertsen and others.

It’s going to be an outstanding event and most importantly, it is going to be fun and focus on fostering connections and relationships and learning from each other (not just the speaker on stage).

This is the least-boring conference in talent development and it is limited to only 150 seats. Will you be joining us?

Leadership ability is often seen as a trait people have instead of a skill they can learn. This is because we are looking at it wrong. We use words like “executive presence” or “charisma” because we haven’t spent enough time breaking down those traits into individual behaviors that we can train.

Leadership can absolutely be learned but good leadership development requires the right design.

Matt Gjertsen will be joining us next month at the Talent Development Think Tank to lead an engaging session that will take us through the design philosophy of “first-principles thinking” to describe a better way to develop leaders.

Matt will be leveraging his experience from the revolutionary aerospace company, SpaceX, and other real-world examples, to help us put these design principles into practice to help improve your organization’s existing development programs, or build new ones that are even better.

I had a chance to see Matt run a session at in New Orleans and can tell you it is engaging and powerful and I’m so excited to have him running a session for us at the Think Tank in Orlando.

AI Transformation is happening or will be soon as we all know. We cannot escape it. So most organizations are trying to figure out what their AI policy will be or how they will use it for operations. And many L&D groups are trying to figure out how they can leverage AI to improve learning.

I’m honored and excited to have Charlotte Evans from Coursera back at The Talent Development Think Tank conference again this year to share insights from her research and work with multiple companies and clients and to share with us how our organizations can prepare for the AI Transformation.

I’m also grateful to Coursera for sponsoring and supporting our conference for the last two years, which allows us to provide even more value to attendees with excellent sessions, speakers, and great food.

I’ve now seen Charlotte speak at multiple conferences and her sessions are always packed because she knowledgeable, helpful, and a total giver (there will be no sales pitch, just great information to help you do your job better).

Come hear Charlotte speak on November 7 at the Talent Development Think Tank in Orlando and get ready for the AI Transformation!

I am bringing my conference- the Talent Development Think Tank - back this November 6-8 and hosting it at a brand new hotel in my hometown of Orlando, FL.

I am really proud of the amazing and diverse lineup of speakers and facilitators we have coming and know it’s going to be another great event.

Ticket sales have been a bit slow so far as companies seem to be limiting travel and budgets, but we have sold some tickets and have some great people coming and big plans to make it another phenomenal event.

If you’re interested in talent development or supporting me or just attending a great conference, check it out and give me a shout it you want to come along.

PS: Some might note the conference starts the day after the election. Yeah I noticed that too. After I signed the contract with the hotel. Oh well vote early and come have fun with us.
We’ll make the best of it.

We need community more than we realize. Yes we can work from home and stick with the easy same old routine.

But humans are social creatures and we need to be around each other.

It fills us up and improves our happiness and wellbeing. Plus it opens us to help with challenges and encouragement with our goals.

And I think it’s the simple answer to why people in Spain (where I currently live) have a longer average lifespan than people in the US (where I’m from). The culture is just a lot more social.

I’m reminded of that every day when I drop my daughter off at school and hang around to chat with other parents.

I was reminded of the importance on a short trip with friends last night and at gatherings this weekend. Every time I get together with friends I walk away feeling a little more fulfilled.

It’s why I intentionally get together with people weekly and why I just bought a ticket on a whim to join a short conference in London next week.

And I love bringing people together to share with each other and support each other. Because it fills people up.

Don’t forget this important part of life. Don’t skip those opportunities to connect with other people. Don’t stick to the same old easy routine.

Get out there and connect.

And if you work in talent development, I’m hosting a fun, engaging, collaborative, valuable, and highly connecting conference on November 6-7 called the Talent Development Think Tank
