🪁 SCHEVENINGEN — A BEACH FULL OF KITE HISTORY 🇳🇱
The Kite Festival Scheveningen is one of the oldest kite festivals around, and over the years, a huge part of Dutch and international kite history has been written on this beach.
The founder of the festival, Gerard van der Loo, was also the founder of VliegerOp — a company that played an important role in kite innovation and development.
Scheveningen was also home to the legendary North Sea Cup, where teams like SkyDance and Aircraft battled it out, and the festival hosted two Eurocups, in 2004 and 2008.
And then there were the BIG kites… 😎
Many spectacular show kites made their first flights here. From the early giant kites created by the Holland Kite Team, including some of the biggest kites in the world and the biggest sport kite in the world, to the legendary Peter Lynn Megabyte and the enormous Flag Kites that later claimed the title of the world's biggest kites.
So much has happened on this stretch of beach.
Now take a look at some of these old photos… 📸
You might recognise a few familiar faces in the sky — and yes… some of those kite fliers look suspiciously young! 😂
Scheveningen isn't just a kite festival. It's a piece of kite history. 🪁❤️
Write new history on 26-27 September 2026 for the 44th Vliegerfestival Scheveningen.
