One of the funniest things about the spiritual journey is how easily we turn it into another reason to feel important.

We collect experiences, insights, beautiful realizations. We learn the language of consciousness. And somewhere along the way, we begin to take our own transformation terribly seriously.

Then life sends us a Trickster.

Someone who says exactly the wrong thing at exactly the right moment. Someone who laughs when we’re expecting admiration. Someone who reminds us that even our most sacred ideas about ourselves are still just ideas.

And there is something wonderfully liberating about that!

The Trickster carries an ancient kind of wisdom. He knows that truth can arrive through laughter, that playfulness can reveal what years of serious contemplation have overlooked.

And that the sacred has a wonderful sense of humour.

And it’s easy to see why. Meditation retreats, beautiful ceremonies, ecstatic experiences, people disappearing into spiritual communities while the rest of the world carries on with its chaos.

But there is a question worth asking.

What happens to our spirituality when we return to the very world we wanted to escape?

When someone challenges our beliefs. When we encounter injustice. When another person’s suffering asks something of us. When love becomes inconvenient and compassion requires more than a beautiful feeling.

Our consciousness reveals itself in how we participate in life.

And this is where Ta**ra becomes profoundly relevant to the world we live in.

Because the world we are so desperate to change is also being created through us. Through the way we relate to power, how we respond to fear, what we do with our anger, and whether we can recognise our shared humanity even in those we struggle to understand.

Every relationship is a small expression of the world we are creating.

There are parts of ourselves we have spent a lifetime trying not to meet.

The jealousy we feel ashamed of. The anger we learned to suppress. The fear hiding beneath our need for control. Even the desires we have convinced ourselves we shouldn’t have.

And yet, everything we refuse to acknowledge continues to influence how we love, how we relate, and how we experience life.

This is why shadow work takes us into such extraordinary depths.

Because the shadow holds more than our pain. It also holds the life force, sensitivity, truth and power we had to abandon in order to become acceptable.

What if you stopped dancing beautifully and started dancing truthfully?

There is a moment on the dance floor when you become aware of someone watching you. And suddenly, something changes. Your movements become a little more controlled. You choose the gestures you know look good. Even your freedom begins to have an audience.

We have learned to perform so much of our lives that we carry the performance into our bodies.

We know how to look confident when we’re terrified. How to smile when we’re hurting. How to appear open while keeping the most vulnerable parts of ourselves carefully hidden.

And the body remembers all of it.

The movements we hold back. The anger we swallow. The pleasure we interrupt because it feels too much. The wildness we have spent years teaching ourselves to contain.

Then the music begins to reach somewhere deeper.

A movement comes that you didn’t plan. Your body follows an impulse before your mind has time to approve it. Something awkward, ridiculous, fierce or unexpectedly tender emerges.

And you allow it.

There is an extraordinary intimacy in being witnessed when you have stopped trying to create an impression.

Because the dance floor can reveal something about the way we live. How often we interrupt our own aliveness to remain acceptable. How much energy we spend managing the way others experience us.

And how much life is waiting underneath all that control.

This is where dance becomes a profound Ta***ic exploration. Every movement becomes an opportunity to listen to what is actually alive inside you, to discover the freedom of allowing your body to speak in its own language.

And sometimes the most beautiful thing you will ever witness is a human being who has completely forgotten to be beautiful.

There is something deeply beautiful about a woman who has found her wildness. Who can feel her own fire, trust her instincts, and follow the rhythm of her own nature.

And there is something even more beautiful about the moment she discovers that she can finally put down her weapons.

One of the strangest things about being human is how quickly we get used to the miracle of being alive.

Think about it.

At some point, you looked at the world with absolute astonishment. You wanted to touch everything, explore everything, ask a thousand questions. A butterfly could stop you in your tracks. Being alive was endlessly fascinating.

And then you learned the names of things.

You learned what to expect. You learned how people behave, how relationships work, what tomorrow will look like. Slowly, the mind replaced the living world with everything it already knew about it.

And we call that growing up.

But look at what it costs us.

We can kiss someone we love without really feeling their lips. Walk through a forest without seeing a single tree. Spend an entire evening with another human being and never truly meet them.

We become so familiar with life that we stop experiencing it.

And this is where Ta**ra becomes wonderfully radical.

It invites us to question the certainty with which we move through existence. To become sensitive enough to feel what is actually happening, before the mind rushes in to tell us what it means.

Because the person sitting across from you is still a mystery. So is your own body. So is this breath that arrives without your permission.

How extraordinary that any of this exists.

What if the sacred looked less like perfection and more like this messy, laughing, crying human life?

We have inherited such a strange idea of spirituality. That the closer we come to the divine, the calmer we should become. Less reactive. Less complicated. Somehow above the chaos of being human.

And so we begin to edit ourselves, even on the spiritual path. We try to meditate away our anger, rise above our jealousy, become more peaceful, more conscious, more evolved.

But who decided that the divine could only be found in the parts of us we have managed to perfect?

There is something profoundly Ta***ic in this question.

Because the moment we divide ourselves into what is sacred and what is unworthy of the sacred, we have already separated ourselves from life.

Think of the last time you laughed so hard you lost control of your body. Or cried in someone’s arms and felt the enormous relief of no longer holding yourself together. The tenderness of being seen in a moment when you had absolutely nothing impressive to offer.

There is a kind of holiness in those moments that no amount of spiritual performance can manufacture.

And this is one of the most beautiful invitations of Ta**ra. To become so intimate with existence that we stop demanding it appear in a more acceptable form before we recognise its beauty.

The sacred has been here all along.
