Stuck for Ideas for your submission to York Environment Festival? 🌱

If you're seeking inspiration, why not try exploring festival events from previous years.

Our website features an archive of previous festival events, and information about the groups that hosted them. This is a great place to understand more about whats normally on offer.

But its also important to remember that an event doesn't have to be what you might first think of when you hear the word 'environment'. Nature is a key part of all of our lives, and impacts everything we do, think, and feel in some way.

You could think about:

🎨art and design
🎭theater
📗literature
🧩philosophy
🍎food
🚴travel
♟politics
🌍history
👥community
🔬health
👗fashion

The possibilities are endless, and we want to get everybody involved. So be creative!

As always, if you have any questions, or would like advise on hosting an event, contact us at [email protected]

Our theme for 2026: Future Generations 🍃

In 2020, as York endured its first winter of the Covid-19 pandemic, York Environment Week was founded. What started as two-dozen events online has grown over the past 6 years into a month-long celebration of our city.

Last year we became York Environment Festival. But whilst our name has changed, our core mission remains the same: to showcase the remarkable work of environment groups active in York, help others to get involved, and facilitate a space for community joy, knowledge and change-making.

With that in mind, the focus of this year's festival will be on the future and the power of younger generations to make change.

To find out more about this years theme and what it means for the
festival, visit our website via the link in our bio.

York Environment Festival 2026 needs you! 💚

As we gear up for our seventh year, we’re looking for more volunteers to power our programme of grassroots events.

YEFest is an annual city-wide festival aimed at showcasing and celebrating the work of environment groups active in York. It offers groups and organisations the opportunity to work together to promote environmental activity. The programme is for anyone who cares about tackling climate change, increasing biodiversity and making the city more sustainable, offering opportunities to connect and get involved.

Each year the festival is coordinated by a core team of volunteers. This year we need people to help with:

🎬 Communications (including newsletters, social media, press releases)
💻 Website support
💷 Fundraising
📨 Outreach and coordination

We can offer volunteers support, training and valuable experience, as well as the opportunity to contribute to an exciting programme of activities.

The York Environment Festival 2026 call for events is now open! 💚🎉

Building on the success of previous years, the annual city-wide festival is back, running from Saturday 3rd October to Sunday 1st November. We are inviting proposals for a wide range of events celebrating and standing up for the environment.

YEFest is a chance to showcase the brilliant work being done by local environmental groups, campaigners, businesses, universities, schools, arts organisations – and more! All events in the festival will be open and free to attend, offering York residents a chance to get involved and find out more about how they can champion their local environment.

Our core mission is to showcase the remarkable work of environment groups active in York, help others to get involved, and facilitate a space for community joy, knowledge and change-making.

The focus of this year’s festival will be on the future and the power of younger generations to make change. We will ask: how can we build better for future generations? For our own resilience? For communities?

We are therefore looking for events that offer a chance to connect with the future-focused theme – whether through education, activism, connection, creativity or hands-on practical activities.

The deadline for event proposals is Friday 31st July. ⏰️

Why not get involved? 🌈

Throw back to the amazing leading environmental education talk that participated in York Environment Festival, livestreamed from the ASEFClassNet18 School Collaboration Conference in Maribor, Slovenia.

The event introduced environmental education at the upper secondary level, and offered free advisory support for university students and educators interested in developing their own environmental curricula.

Thank you to the SDGs Curriculum Office for organising.
