Three weeks on from SXSW, with the stages packed down and the team back on home soil, it’s time to reflect on another standout year for the British Music Embassy.
We caught up with Sam Wilkinson, BME Stage Manager and Studio Operations Manager at Production Park, to get his take on this year’s experience:
“Another March passes and another British Music Embassy @ SXSW successfully delivered by our crack team of crew and ALT students. And whilst the wider world outlook might feel slightly uncertain, one thing is for sure - the Great British creative sector, and the emerging talent coming out of the UK, is the strongest it’s ever been.
With a team of 5 Academy of Live Technology (ALT) UK and 2 ALT US students working alongside industry professionals and Production Park, we showcased nearly 60 artists in a condensed version of SXSW for the second year at Palm Door on the 6th.
The show wasn’t without its challenges (as any inner-city music festival brings) but our students rose above, proving themselves a real credit to their institutes.
While the artists represent the next generation of British musical talent, our students are the ones who will be lighting them, managing their production and making them sound incredible for years to come.
SXSW remains a hotbed of creative exchange, giving our team insight into emerging trends across music, film & TV, gaming, advertising and XR. Understanding both the technology and the wider social and economic forces shaping these industries helps us see where the next wave of arena-scale talent will come from - like Sam Fender, Olivia Dean or The 1975 before them. With artists like Adult DVD, Blair Davie, MT Jones, KOJ, Mae Muller and Meek among this year’s highlights, the future of British music feels in very safe hands.
It’s also important to recognise the role of grassroots and independent venues in that journey. These spaces are where artists cut their teeth and where future touring careers begin. Alongside our industry partners, we’re proud to help power the next generation of live and creative professionals and to play a part in supporting the ecosystem that makes it all possible.”
