If heading to the beginning of the nature walk at Highgate House, you'll now spot a new handmade bug hotel, created by Rhys, our Guest Services Host.

Built using reclaimed materials, this rustic little retreat has been designed to offer a safe home for pollinators and other beneficial insects. It is another meaningful step in our ongoing work to care for the grounds, support biodiversity, and encourage guests to enjoy the natural beauty around Highgate House.

We are delighted to share that Christian Conference Trust has been recognised as one of The Caterer’s Top 30 UK's Best Places to Work in Hospitality 2026.

This is a very special moment for us, not simply because of the award itself, but because this recognition is rooted in anonymous feedback from our own teams. It reflects the lived experience of the people who serve across our three centres, The Hayes, High Leigh and Highgate House, every day.

Believe it or not, there was once an air raid shelter which lay beneath the lawn at Highgate House. The shelter remained in place for many years before being removed in the 1990s. Although there is not a clear photograph of the shelter itself, one old snowy photograph shows a raised mound on the lawn. It may look like snow at first, but the raised area was actually the shelter underneath.
