In the foothills of the Peak District, The Vale is a former textile mill converted to a state-of-the-art venue for all kinds of creative happenings.

If it’s live performance you’re after, The Vale hosts a variety of music, theatre, dance, and cinema throughout the year. This space is also used by our resident Carnival arts organisations to develop new productions and artists as part of our Northern Carnival Centre for Excellence. Our mixed-use and specialist studios are also a hit with visual artists. All our spaces are available for hire and we would love to welcome you to our growing family of creatives that call The Vale home.

Thanks so much for coming to our 5th Birthday Carnival of Creativity day last Saturday! 🥳 Here are a few snaps of just some of what went on during the free family-friendly daytime activities.

It's Sustainable Sunday! The Vale and Global Grooves takes its commitment to carbon reduction and addressing the climate crisis very seriously, and these special screenings of the People's Emergency Briefing are the latest of our efforts to support our community in striving for a cleaner and greener future, helping people discover what positive action they can take and to connect people to the wider conversation.

Thanks to everyone that came, there were some really great discussions had, we had 3 screenings (1 in-house for our team) and two public sold-out screenings.

Wait there's more this weekend?! Sunday Sessions returns this Sunday with laid‑back live music from our house band + local blues guitarist Paolo Fuschi is our special guest to round off the celebrations. Join us from 1pm - 4pm.

This season it's donation-on-the-door to keep the event running into the future. Suggested £5 an adult (and under 18s go free), or make your own contribution that works for your family.

Emerging artist Ethan - who's also a crucial Carnival crew member and valued part of The Vale's volunteering team - has been busy bringing a brand-new piece of parade magic to life. Known for his drumming talent and regular involvement in Carnival parades, Ethan decided to take on a different kind of creative challenge this summer.

He applied to the Everyday Pride Grants for Wigan, and soon received a message saying the panel would love to see his concept realised - a surprise that set an exciting week of making into motion.

Working from one of The Vale’s studios, Ethan began building a colourful bird puppet inspired by the Pride flag celebrating creativity, identity, and community spirit. Ethan’s creation made its debut at Wigan Pride Parade 2026 🌈

What an amazing way to end our School holiday Lunch+ programme with the fantastic Jubacana for our Lunch+ Gig!

Thanks to all the families that came and enjoyed so many different activities over the holidays, as well to our fantastic facilitators and caterers 💚

Wishing everyone well for a new school year and hope to see you again soon here at The Vale.

We have lots happening for families, including our 5th Birthday on 12th September 10am - 4pm as well as regular Saturday activities including Crafty Saturdays and Our Space gardening project 10am - 12.30pm.
