Shocked and saddened to hear of Ronnie Golden's unexpected passing.
Tony DeMeur was a true gentleman. It makes it all the more poignant that after years of near misses, we managed to bring him to Morecambe this year, where he shared the stage with The Young Ones Retrospective opening the festival in July. He'd memorably played Buddy Holly in an episode - the perfect reason to bring him up.
A long time collaborator of Barry Cryer's he was full of anecdotes and smiles.
Artistic Director Matt Panesh said, "I knew Ronnie from the early days of my fringe though hed had about ten careers by then, each night sharing s***f, stories and smiles. I'd not seen him since before covid, and neither of us went back to Edinburgh after, so I'm grateful that he came up and stayed for a few nights in July, and we had a laugh that felt like old times."
