Each boat carries a decorated model and as darkness falls the boats disappear into the blackness below, leaving the models apparently gliding along just above the water.

The kiddies' fairground is one of the features of every Matlock Bath Illuminations night 😍

If you're planning to visit this year, the fairground, our food and drink stalls, plus entertainment around the bandstand and the spectacular parade of illuminated boats on the river are a big part of every event.

The first opportunity to see the 2026 parade will be our Preview Night on Saturday 12th September (all adult tickets £5 / accompanied under 16s £1), and from then on the boats will be the star turn at every Illuminations night. That's every weekend from the following Saturday (19th September) through to Sunday 1st November, plus Friday 30th October.

Preview Night will also feature a 'K-Pop Party Experience'! Expect Big K-Pop routines, bold characters and loads of energy. It's a lively, pop concert-style show with plenty to get involved in.

Just to stress that our fireworks finale nights in 2026 are every October Saturday plus the final night of the season - Sunday 1st November. And tickets are selling *fast*! Please note all these nights will sell out in advance.

Ticket sales for the 2026 season are already well into four figures, with our discounted Preview Night on Saturday 12th September (all adult tickets £5 / accompanied under 16s £1) doing particularly well 👍

There are no fireworks on Preview Night but we do have a 'K-Pop Party Experience' this year! Expect Big K-Pop routines, bold characters and loads of energy. It's a lively, pop concert-style show with plenty to get involved in.

After Preview Night, the 2026 Illuminations then run every weekend from Saturday 19th September to Sunday 1st November, with the fabulous illuminated boats on the River Derwent the stars of the show at every Illuminations night.

And once again this year accompanied under 16s pay only £1 for any night, including our fireworks finale events 🫶

A few people have asked us about the themes of this year's boat parade on the River Derwent... The answer: No-one knows 🤐 (except for the boat builders themselves of course!).

However, to give you a feel for what to expect of the sheer brilliance of the designs, here are last year's models, photographed by Simon Beynon 🤩

Our FROZEN tributes are back at the 2026 Matlock Bath Illuminations 🤩

Anna and Elsa characters will lead singalongs and will be available for your photos on two nights: Sunday 20th September and Sunday 4th October.

As always kids: dress to impress! And don't forget it's just £1 entry for accompanied under 16s!

A reminder that we also have a K-Pop tribute on our Preview Night (12th September) - plus K-Pop characters Rumi, Mira and Zoey will return on Saturday 26th September for a further pop concert style show!

Look out too for a 'Wicked' tribute on Sunday 18th October, led by Elphaba and Glinda characters.
