Each boat carries a decorated model and as darkness falls the boats disappear into the blackness below, leaving the models apparently gliding along just above the water.

Our 2026 season opens with a Preview Night on Saturday 12th September (all adult tickets just £5 online) and the 2026 Illuminations will then run every weekend from Saturday 19th September to Sunday 1st November, plus one Friday - 30th October.

We can't wait to see the 2026 spectacular parade of illuminated boats on the River Derwent - the highlight of every Illuminations night 😍

Visitors to our Preview Night on 12th September will be the first to enjoy this year's boats - and a reminder that all adult tickets for opening night are discounted to just £5. It's just £1 for accompanied under 16s (and that's the case throughout the 2026 season).

Preview Night will also feature a 'K-Pop Party Experience'! Expect Big K-Pop routines, bold characters and loads of energy. It's a lively, pop concert-style show with plenty to get involved in.
Plus we will have the kiddies' funfair and all the usual stalls and circus skills entertainment, including the return of the fabulous Paris Bubbles Entertainment!

After 12th September, the Illuminations then run every weekend from the following Saturday (19th September) through to Sunday 1st November, plus Friday 30th October.

We have to remind ourselves that Matlock Bath Illuminations (then called the 'Venetian Nights') date all the way back to 1897.

Which makes the 2026 event the 129th year of this very special festival.

Does anyone know why the event started? 🤔

A gentle reminder that we open this year with a Preview Night on Saturday 12th September, and then, from the following Saturday, it's every Saturday and Sunday (plus Friday 30th October) through to 1st November.

Well there's a thing - we spotted one or two bikers in Matlock Bath today 🤣

Our spectacular village is a magnet for all, and on busy days (if you don't own a bike!) we always recommend the excellent hourly train service on the picturesque Derwent Valley line from Nottingham and Derby 🚄

The same goes for Illuminations nights of course.

Oh, and did we mention that we're just 3 months away from opening night of the 2026 Matlock Bath Illuminations?🫶

Named 'Peacock of the Peaks', it was designed by Paul Lil.

In case you've never visited the event before, the themes of the decorated boats change every year - and this year's designs won't be revealed until the 2026 Preview Night on Saturday 12th September.

We've discounted ticket prices for Preview Night. All adult tickets £5 / accompanied under 16s £1) 👍

The Illuminations then run every weekend from the following Saturday (19th September) through to Sunday 1st November, plus Friday 30th October.

The current spate of miserable weather is a reminder that our autumn Matlock Bath Illuminations sometimes get a little damp - but we love it when you have fun in any case! ❤️

Don't worry, we've booked wonderful weather for our 2026 season, which kicks off with our Preview Night on 12th September and then runs every Saturday and Sunday from 19th September through to 1st November (plus Friday 30th October).

Fireworks finales (which *will* s e l l - o u t in advance) happen every October Saturday plus the final night, Sunday 1st November.
