But Samhain is about much more than ghosts and spooky traditions. It represents the cycle of life, death, darkness, remembrance and renewal
Samhain marks the transition between the light half of the calendar year, spring and summer, and the dark half, autumn and winter, associated with rest, death, reflection and the unseen world
It is a time to reflect on the achievements and personal growth of the year gone by, and to look forward to the harvest, and to turn our attentions to next year and adventures that lie ahead

We’re heading North!
Entries for the Pan Celtic Ultra 2027 have only been open a short while, and already the Clan is gathering muster
Familiar names, new faces, riders returning for another adventure and others preparing to take on their very first Pan Celtic
To everyone who’s already committed, thank you. We don’t take that faith in what we’re building for granted. And to those still thinking about it, we’d love to have you along
Yr GODODDIN ~ HEN OGLEDD 2027
Next year we’re heading North. Into the ancient kingdoms, through the borderlands and across some of the most beautiful and overlooked corners of Britain. There’ll be wild coastlines, lonely roads, ancient places, some questionable weather and, inevitably, a few hills that will have you wondering why you ever signed up
There’ll also be those little moments that make it all worthwhile. A sunrise after a long night. A conversation with a stranger. Finding another Pan Celtic rider sitting outside a petrol station at two in the morning, looking just as bewildered as you. That’s the stuff we love
We’ve always believed the Pan Celtic should be about more than getting from A to B as quickly as possible. It’s about the places you pass through, the people you meet and the stories you bring home

The Pan Celtic Ultra 2027 ~ July 10-20th 2027
Last year, the Druids took flight. We left Conwy, crossed the sea and began a new chapter of the Pan Celtic story. A journey into older places, older stories, and the landscapes that shaped the Celtic world long before the lines on our modern maps appeared
In 2027, we go deeper. Y Gododdin
More than fourteen centuries ago, a warband gathered in Y Hen Ogledd ~ the Old North. From Din Eidyn, the ancient stronghold of Edinburgh, they rode south towards Catraeth, generally identified with modern-day Catterick in North Yorkshire. There, according to Y Gododdin, they fought a vastly larger enemy force in a battle from which very few returned. Their courage, comradeship and deaths were remembered in one of the oldest surviving works of British poetry
Their journey ended at Catraeth. Their story did not
We’re not here to recreate their journey
From Conwy, the road will carry you towards Catraeth and into Y Hen Ogledd. Through wild country, lost kingdoms and landscapes where fragments of that older world still remain. There will be hard miles and empty roads. Places you know, and plenty you probably don’t
As always, the route will ask something of you. How much you ask of yourself is up to you

The Long — 1,507.1 miles / 87,132 ft
This is the whole story. At 1,507 miles and more than 87,000 feet of climbing, the Long is the biggest Pan Celtic route we have ever created outside of a Magnum Opus. And this year, there is no ferry. No crossing to break the rhythm. From the moment you leave Conwy until the moment you return, every mile is yours to ride
You’ll journey to Catraeth before continuing north into Y Hen Ogledd. The miles grow, the roads quieten and the landscapes become wilder as you travel deeper into the world that gave us Y Gododdin. Eventually, you’ll reach the sea. At Holy Island, the road itself disappears beneath the tide. Lindisfarne has been a place of journeys, sanctuary, invasion and pilgrimage for centuries. For you, it marks another moment in a much longer journey.
Because you aren’t finished yet
There will be mountains and moorland. Borders crossed almost without noticing. Tiny roads to places you’ve never heard of. Long nights, early mornings and those strange little moments that somehow become the ones you remember most.
At this distance, you don’t simply ride through a landscape. You live in it for a while
You’ll eat where you can. Sleep where you can. Make good decisions and occasionally questionable ones. You’ll meet people you would never otherwise have met and share miles with riders who began as strangers. And somewhere amongst those 1,507 miles, life outside the race will start to feel a very long way away
This is Pan Celtic at its fullest. The longest road of Chapter Two so far. The complete Y Gododdin journey

The Short — 986.4 miles / 54,789 ft
Now we go north. Almost a thousand miles and nearly 55,000 feet of climbing. The Short is where the Pan Celtic becomes a proper multi-day undertaking
From Conwy, you’ll cross the country to Catraeth, the place forever tied to the warriors of Y Gododdin. But while the Intro turns for home, you keep going. North. Into Y Hen Ogledd
The Old North. A landscape of lost kingdoms, shifting borders and stories that have survived long after the world that created them disappeared. Your road carries you through that country, across borders and onto increasingly wild roads. How you travel through it is entirely up to you. Sleep beneath the stars or find a bed. Carry everything or travel light. Ride deep into the night or stop for a pint and start again in the morning. There is no prescribed way to ride a Pan Celtic. Only the route, the rules and the decisions you make along the way
At nearly a thousand miles, you’ll have time to settle into the strange rhythm of an ultra. Days begin to merge. A café becomes the greatest café you’ve ever visited. Small comforts acquire enormous importance. And eventually, the road turns back towards Wales

The Intro is your way into the Pan Celtic world. 457 miles from Conwy, across Wales and northern England, through changing landscapes and old country, to a place that sits at the heart of our 2027 story. Catraeth
More than fourteen centuries ago, the warriors remembered in Y Gododdin rode south from Y Hen Ogledd ~ the Old North ~ towards this place. Their journey became one of the oldest surviving stories of these islands
Your journey will be rather different
You’ll leave Conwy and find your own way through long days, quiet roads, steep climbs, food stops, questionable decisions and whatever the weather decides to throw at you. You’ll reach Catraeth. And then, of course, you still have to ride home
The Intro is for first-time ultra riders, old hands who want something shorter and faster, mates taking on something together, or anyone who simply wants a proper Pan Celtic adventure squeezed into a few extraordinary days. It may be our shortest route. But this is no token distance. You ride all the way to Catraeth and back. Self-supported. Your decisions. Your adventure.

Our latest film, Ultra for All documents the first edition of the Pan Celtic Race Series Chapter 2, following a clan of self-supported endurance cyclists as they retrace this ancient path of sanctuary. Setting out from the shadow of Conwy Castle, the route crosses Anglesey to Dublin, carving north past the coastal cliffs of Torr Head before plunging into the untamed wilderness and stunning mountain passes of the Wild Atlantic Way
Traversing ancient settlements, remote moorlands, and unforgiving coastal elements, riders battle raw isolation before looping back to close the circle where it all began. More than a test of physical endurance, Ultra for All is a cinematic pilgrimage through living history - proving that while empires fall, the Celtic spirit endures
