Busy in the workshop today. Just received a nice set of lefthanded irons from the US. Wheatly Hill Golf Club just outside the village of East Willington was incorporated in 1913. Willie Klein was the professional there from 1926 - 1957. Will soak these clubs and use wire wool / WD40 to remove the loose rust. Grips will be cleaned up with saddle soap. The head on the niblick needs repinning and the mashie niblick needs a little work on the shaft. Will be ready to play by Easter.

Interesting Jigger I just picked up. The grip has been squared off and has a nice end cap. The shaft is wooden but as you can see at the end of the hosel it looks like it is coated as some of the coating is coming away. The sole is very broad. Would anyone have an idea on the date this club was manufactured.

Had a wonderful round at Great Orme Golf Robin was working hard rolling the greens. Looking forward to the warmer weather and a sip and put.

Great news looking forward to sip and a put. Will be up on Thursday. Got a deep groove club to try out they were banned in 1921 by USGA and R&A but it will be fun to try it out.

Fairlie Patent niblick stamped Cann and Taylor warranted hand forged. J H Taylor. Plain face. Interesting plate attached to the shaft that reads:

To Sir Max Aitken
From the Scottish Sunday Express September 1965
To mark the first year of the

Appraisal of a golf club I have recently refurbished



Immediately recognisable from the cleek mark of the Anderson name within a circle. This was the mark of the firm's founder, the blacksmith, James Anderson, who began making clubs in the 1860s. The 1904 advertisement below claims they had already been in business for more than half a century but I suspect he was banging out horseshoes for the first ten years or so. The business was carried on after James's death in 1895 (25.4.1895) by his son, Alex. He changed the cleek mark to a double circle around the name and, in 1905, to the arrow mark associated with their later clubs.





As the club has just one circle around in the cleek mark I can conclude the club was probably manufactured between 1870 and 1895
