Looking back through the MacMoray archives, it’s remarkable to see how far we’ve come.
We pride ourselves on the fact that, even through generations of inflation, we have never raised the price of our tickets or our drinks. A commitment we fully intend to continue.
What started as a humble gathering in a park, with a few hundred people enjoying some fiddles, pies and Wh**ky, has grown into the monster that will welcome 30,000 people through the gates next year.
The original vision was simple.. create a community meeting place where people could enjoy music, good company and forget about the outside world for a while. Today, we welcome people from across Scotland, the UK and all over the world, but that principle hasn’t changed.
MacMoray was established during an era when the MacDonald clan’s reputation was still recovering from having its pants pulled down by the Campbells. A feud which is still very much ongoing to this very day.
Through the generations, MacMoray has remained what it was always intended to be.. affordable tickets, affordable drinks, live music, carnivals and a place where, for one weekend, you leave your troubles and the problems of the world outside the gates.
To finally be awarded Scotland’s Festival of the Year is a major milestone. It took generations to get here, and we are truly humbled.
It’s wonderful to see people today celebrating the same festival their parents, grandparents and great grandparents enjoyed before them.
Long live MacMoray Festival.. a festival that even the Karens, their Karen mothers, grandkarens and great grandkarens have proudly complained about throughout the generations. ❤️
