What happens when you give a bunch of middle-aged DJs and their kids some paint, charcoal and masking tape? 😂

Well, apparently you get the beginnings of a pretty impressive light show.

When we first started chatting about Connect, one thing we agreed on was that we didn’t want everything to revolve around the DJ booth. We wanted the whole room to feel part of the night.

And that’s where our pal comes in.

He’s been putting a serious amount of thought and work into the visuals for Friday, and somehow managed to rope us and the kids into making artwork for them too.

Safe to say there’s not a lot of artistic talent between us, but we had a brilliant laugh doing it. 😂

Anyway, we’ll let Andy explain what he’s been up to. We’re just looking forward to seeing what he does with all our scribbles.

We had a fair idea of the kind of folk we wanted in the room for Connect in June.

And the exact crowd we hoped for showed up with bells on.

Everyone got stuck in and made the night their own. All ages, all backgrounds, all kinds of people but with a few key things in common.

ONE WEEK TO GO! 💃

Ian’s here with a wee update. And yes, that is definitely him saying ‘SEVEN days to go’ - absolutely no dodgy editing involved. 😂

Things are coming together brilliantly for next Friday. has been working his magic on the visuals, we’ve got some cracking decor and lighting planned, and of course plenty of good house tracks for you.

One thing we’d love you to do again is come early.

We asked everyone to come along for 7pm back in June and couldn’t believe how many of you did. It made such a difference to the night. Folk having a drink, catching up, enjoying the warm-up and letting the music build from there.

So let’s do that again. Doors at 7pm. Come and enjoy the whole night with us.

Took a wee gamble with this track at the last Connect.

Wasn’t entirely sure how it would go down, but I loved the tune and decided to give it a go.

That vocal breakdown, the build, and then watching the room react when it kicked in. Brilliant. ❤️

Seeing Funk D'Void on a Dundee flyer again had got us feeling all nostalgic...

This Friday, Canvas welcomes Scottish legend Funk D’Void for a 3 hour set, and it's one not to be missed.

Back in 2000, when the brilliant Foundation first opened (in the venue that would later become the Reading Rooms), we were lucky enough to bring him to Dundee for the first time at our night at the time, Zap.

It was a massive deal for us back then, as he was, and still is, one of our favourite DJs.

We've dug out the original poster too. As you can see, it hasn't aged well, unlike the man himself!

Can't wait to see him behind the decks again. If you haven't got a ticket for this one, jump on it as soon as you can!

Well… that was quick. 😂

The three of us are currently sitting in the Gunners Bar, Broughty Ferry for Funky Gunners open decks night.

We’re doing some serious planning for the next Connect. Ahem. 🍺

Whilst here we got the notification that every early bird had gone. In 11 hours.

Last time it took 24, so to see them go even quicker this time is a pretty brilliant feeling.

Genuinely, thank you. Whether you grabbed a ticket today, joined the Connect List, shared one of our posts or told a pal about the night — we really appreciate it.

We’re just three mates trying to put on the kind of house night we want to go to ourselves, and the way people have got behind it has been class. ❤️
