KENT BACKYARD ULTRA SERIES II | STATUS CHECK

One down. Three to go. And the start lines are filling fast.

2.1. VIGO | COMPLETE

Terry Smith took the win with 26 yards. Series II is officially underway.

2.2. DOVER | FINAL 20 PLACES

Next stop, 9 January 2027.

The Kent coast in the middle of winter. Exposed trails, unpredictable conditions and another chance to discover just how far you're willing to go.

Only 20 places stand between Dover and a sell-out.

2.3. SHOLDEN | SOLD OUT

Every place taken. The flattest course in the series is ready to deliver some serious mileage in April.

This one goes to a runner who spent more than three days representing his country.

Iain lined up for Team UK at the Backyard Ultra World Team Championships and went on to complete an incredible 76 yards.

That is 316.7 official miles and a new Backyard Ultra PB.

It also extended Iain’s own Scottish record and helped propel Team UK into the top five in the world.

After an incredible 76 yards, Iain’s race came to an end with a medical retirement.

Not the ending he would have wanted, but after 316.7 miles, a new PB and a new Scottish record, there was already an enormous amount to be proud of.

You might notice Iain’s Strava activity shows 303.73 miles rather than 316.7.

That is simply because his watch was charging at basecamp at different points during the event, and on a few occasions he forgot to resume it immediately at the start of the next yard.

The official Backyard Ultra result is the one that matters:

76 yards.
316.7 official miles.
A new PB.
A new Scottish record.
Top five in the world with Team UK.

And behind every performance like this is a crew keeping things moving hour after hour.

Iain gave a huge thanks to Julie Bethune, Meagan Milić, Hayley Bimbles and Eleanor Gallon for getting him through those 76 yards.

For representing his country and pushing his own limits further than ever before...

And just like that, all 120 places are gone!

120 runners. One of the flattest Backyard Ultra courses in the UK. And a course record of 41 yards (170.8 miles) waiting to be broken.

HISTORY MADE AT VIGO.

Three women.
Three incredible performances.
One new female course record.

Catrina Macarthur.
Megan Bates.
Laura-K Buckley.

All three completed 15 yards and 100.6km, setting a new joint female course record at 2.1. Vigo.

That record belonged at 11 yards coming into Series II.

They didn’t just beat it.

They pushed it out by another four yards.

15 yards. 100.6km.

Congratulations Catrina, Megan and Laura. An outstanding performance from all three of you and a piece of Vigo history that now has three names written against it.

The bar has moved.

Who takes it further next time?
