A group of dedicated volunteers worked around the clock to help bring the Governor Backyard Ultra to life. Their commitment and hard work made this event possible for every runner, and I’m beyond grateful for their efforts. This experience wouldn’t have been what it was without their dedication behind the scenes. Thank you to each and every one of you.
While the weekend didn’t unfold exactly as I envisioned when I began planning 14 months ago, the journey has been nothing short of incredible. Over the past month, I’ve realized just how much people believe in what Hellfire Events stands for, and the love and excitement for what’s to come has been overwhelming.
Although I made the difficult decision to stop the event early, it was still completely worth the hundreds of hours myself and the team invested. In that moment, I struggled to hold back my emotions, knowing how much effort runners, crews, and volunteers had put in. But on reflection, I see now that the effort wasn’t wasted.
The event was a huge success in so many ways. Personal bests were smashed, and 4 runners surpassed 100 miles, along with a new course record. I'm also pretty sure it’s the furthest anyone has ever run entirely inside the Citadel in its very long history. I couldn’t have asked for more. The sense of community was truly inspiring, and I’ve learned so much about the Backyard Ultra community this weekend.
Thank you to everyone who was part of this journey. Keep an eye out for loads of videos and photos on our social media accounts, and I’ll send the link to the results in the next couple of days. I’m already looking forward to our next chapter together.
