They start at the very back of the field.

Their job is simple: keep moving forward.

Your job is even simpler: finish ahead of them.

For 2026, we’re pleased to reveal that Adam Greatbatch will be The Ferry.

Adam is the creator of Out In The Sun, a trail running and outdoor storytelling channel that captures the races, landscapes, and communities that make our sport special; sharing the journey with runners across the UK.

Starting from the back of the field, Adam will work his way through the runners of Beat the Ferry 50K.

ITRA launched Women’s Trail Day to celebrate, support and promote inclusion on women in trail running. Their stats show c.30.5% of runners in their database are women.

I was recently inspired watching the performance of women in a backyard ultra. 2 women made it into the last 3. It reminded me we are often capable of much more than we expect and realise.

Now I’m not saying we should all go out and run a backyard ultra! However it’s reminds me to try and see what it possible. Whether that is lacing up your shoes and going out the door for your first run, entering your first event or taking on a distance that seems a bit scary.

At Eightmile Events we offer a welcoming environment for all runners with generous cut offs and period products available at the start, finish and main aid stations. If you are thinking of signing up to any of our events and have any questions, drop us a message.
