✨June Recovery Focus ✨

👉🏼Why June is Important for Your Body
As we move into June, longer days and warmer weather naturally encourage us to become more active — walking more, training harder, travelling, gardening, running, and spending more time outdoors.

But increased activity also means:
* tighter muscles
* more joint stress
* dehydration
* fatigue
* and a higher risk of injury if recovery is ignored

At Bee RelaxeD - Sports Massage Therapy, June is the perfect time to focus on:
✅ mobility
✅ recovery
✅ circulation
✅ hydration
✅ and keeping the body balanced before summer activity levels increase

Key Areas To Prioritise This Month:
🌿 Loosening tight hips and lower back
🌿 Improving circulation and lymphatic flow
🌿 Releasing tension from calves, hamstrings & shoulders
🌿 Supporting recovery after training or long work days
🌿 Reducing stress and nervous system overload

Sports massage can help:
✔ reduce muscle tension
✔ improve flexibility
✔ support injury prevention
✔ ease aches and pains
✔ improve movement and posture
✔ help you feel more energised and relaxed

Your body works hard for you every day — recovery is not a luxury, it’s maintenance.

🦓 MAY IS EDS & HSD AWARENESS MONTH 🦓 .danlos

May is dedicated to raising awareness for Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS) and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD) — often misunderstood and misdiagnosed connective tissue conditions that can affect the entire body.

At Bee RelaxeD - Sports Massage Therapy, we want to help spread awareness, encourage understanding, and support those living with these conditions every day. 💛

One important assessment tool used when identifying hypermobility is the Beighton Score — a simple scoring system used by healthcare professionals to measure joint hypermobility. A higher score may indicate generalized hypermobility and can support further assessment for HSD or EDS.

Common symptoms can include:
✨ Joint hypermobility
✨ Chronic pain & fatigue
✨ Frequent injuries or dislocations
✨ Digestive issues
✨ Dizziness & nervous system symptoms
✨ Soft or fragile skin

🖤 How you can help this May:
✔️ Share educational posts
✔️ Wear zebra stripes — the zebra is the symbol for EDS
✔️ Share personal stories and experiences
✔️ Support friends, family, and clients living with invisible conditions
✔️ Take part in awareness challenges such as the Walk & Roll Challenge

Earlier diagnosis and better understanding can make a huge difference to quality of life.

At Bee RelaxeD we’re all about balance and yes, that includes enjoying the occasional cocktail too. 🍸

But if you’ve got a treatment booked, here’s the buzz on alcohol before and after treatment:

👉🏼Before your massage?
Alcohol can dehydrate the body, increase sensitivity, and make you feel lightheaded during treatment. Sports massage already gets your circulation moving, so combining the two can sometimes leave you feeling a little too relaxed.

👉🏼After your massage?
Your muscles have just had a workout of their own! Drinking alcohol straight after treatment may slow down recovery, contribute to dehydration, and reduce some of the feel-good benefits your body is soaking up.

👉🏼The sweet spot?
Hydrate well, enjoy your treatment, and if you fancy a drink later keep it moderate and sip responsibly. Your muscles (and your head tomorrow morning) will thank you because wellness is all about enjoying life and looking after yourself.

🌿May is National Walking Month🌿

With longer days and better weather in Aberdeen/shire, more of us are getting outside and moving. Walking is one of the simplest, most effective ways to support your health.

✔️ Why walking matters
Regular walking improves circulation, supports joint mobility, reduces stress, and helps keep muscles active without high impact. It’s a great foundation for overall wellbeing.

✔️ How many steps should you aim for?
A common guideline is around 8,000–10,000 steps per day, but even small increases from your normal routine can make a big difference. Consistency matters more than perfection.

✔️ Wear the right footwear
Supportive trainers with good cushioning and arch support help reduce strain on your feet, calves, and lower back. Worn-out shoes can contribute to discomfort and injury.

✔️ Don’t forget hydration
Even on cooler days, your body loses fluids. Staying hydrated helps muscle function, reduces fatigue, and supports recovery.

✔️ Protect your skin
Yes even in Scotland! UV rays can still affect your skin, so applying sunscreen is a simple but important step.

If you’ve recently increased your walking and are noticing tight calves, sore feet, or lower back discomfort your body might need a bit of support.

Sports massage can help ease tension, improve recovery, and keep you moving comfortably this spring.

💛 Mental Health Awareness Month 💛

At Bee RelaxeD, we know that looking after your body and your mind go hand in hand. Recovery isn’t just physical, it’s emotional too.

If you’re struggling, please know there is support available right here in Aberdeen.

✨Local support options:
• Your GP can connect you with mental health link workers and local services
• Free counselling is available through services like The Bounds at the University of Aberdeen
• Community wellbeing hubs and outreach programmes are available across the city
• Charities like SAMH offer support, advice, and practical help

A huge shoutout to Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH) who are opening a brand new walk-in support hub, “The Nook”, at Marischal Square (the old Tony Macaroni) in June 2026.
This is a game-changer for the city — a safe, stigma-free space where you can:
✔️ Drop in without an appointment
✔️ Talk to someone who understands
✔️ Access support, resources & wellbeing activities
✔️ Get help without waiting lists

👉🏼No referrals. No barriers. Just support when you need it most. You don’t have to go through anything alone.

If you’re not ready to talk, that’s okay even taking a step like booking a massage, getting outside, or checking in with someone you trust can make a difference.
