Well, another epic year at the Fergus Fibre Festival! And wow, that was a doozy! We had prepared for bad weather,…and have dealt with rain, and cold and some wind in the past - but never all three, at once and amped to the highest voltage!
How sad we were that we had to make that call and end it early, but tents were literally flying through the air, snapping and the danger was too high. We value our community’s safety too much to risk it. I know some tents seemed ok - but the ones that weren’t would have eventually taken them out….and it only got worse after take down. Different wind was happening at different points in the street and all I can say is that we are lucky we ended it in time.
But, we appreciate you all so much in this wonderful fibre community of ours. We were shocked by how many came out to support us, knowing it was wet and windy and cold. So many volunteers were soaked to the bone all day and came home bone tired and they never stopped being positive. Customers, who had come from afar only to see the tail end as it shut down helped us with such kindness. So many vendors helped each other with caring and community and almost everyone took the shutdown with a graciousness that warmed our hearts.
We thank you all and can only reflect, now that we are safe & warm, that our makers community is a special place that we cherish. We are grateful. You are the absolute best. And we are thinking…
Indoors looks like a darned good option from here on in!
