This Throwback Thursday, we’re going all the way back to February of 2000 with another Insideline column from Australian Motorcycle Trader. In this issue, Steve Brouggy talks SUSPENSION, what it is, and how it works. For this week's Throwback Thursday, we are re-sharing an article written by Peter Whitaker from Australian Motorcycle News covering the story of Cec Weatherby and Don Bain. In 1928, the two riders set out to break the record for fastest trip from Melbourne to Sydney on a Matchless V-twin. It took them 14 hours and 35 minutes, and a new record for any type of motorcycle. Only one year later, Weatherby, together with his good mate and fellow TT competitor Don Bain, calculated they could lower the record even farther on a Phil Irving-tuned 996cc AJS V-twin fitted with the latest Goulding Comfort Sidecar.
