Seeing Queer NT

One queer's collection of what's on, where to go and who to look out for in NT's queer communities. Let’s see how this goes. I’m Gina. I’m seeing queer NT.

I spend a fair bit of time trying to keep up with what’s on, where to go, and who’s who in the queer communities of Garrmalang (and also Mparntwe and other parts of the NT). So, I’m gonna park stuff on the socials as I go along and maybe it’ll be fun for me and a bit of a shortcut for others. If you’re Queer or other LGBTIASB+ in the NT and you’re running an event/exhibition, in an event/exhibition, own/manage a business, whatever, and you’d like me to have you on my queerdar... hit me up with a dm. This is SQuiNT. Insta:

I acknowledge the Gulumoerrgin/Larrakia people as the custodians of Garrmalang/Darwin and beyond. These lands have been places of gathering, celebration and creativity for tens of thousands of years, and I am lucky and grateful to live and love here. I give my respect to your Elders past, present and emerging. And I commit to tread lightly on your beautiful Country.

In the spirit of our last post about the importance to artists, producers and venues (the whole arts eco-system really) that we book ahead and don’t leave everything to the last minute. Have a look at this gig on December 18: Sandi Thom co-headlining with q***r artist Greg Gould, supported by NT artist Prayer Corby.

Sandi Thom’s “I Wish I Was a Punkrocker” was number 1 in Australia for 10 consecutive weeks in 2006, and still a rockin’ example of punk at its best. Greg Gould’s LGBTQIA+ anthem ‘Marching On’ was used as the Darwin Pride theme song in 2023. Together, they did a call-out for q***r artists to support them in each of the tour locations… step up, Prayer Corby. Love this concept. Should be a great session. Check Bustard Town 💜

There are many in our q***r and rainbow communities who are doing important work to support justice, social change and diversity, for LGBTQIA people and others. We’ve only got until Friday 16th to submit nominations for the NT Human Rights Awards. Look around you and see who you could nominate. 💜
