Love bluegrass and old-time music?
Want to experience Australasia's premier acoustic roots festival from behind the scenes in the gorgeous Victorian High Country? Come join our community!
Mountaingrass 2026 is returning to Bright, Victoria from November 13–15, 2026. Because our festival is organized entirely by a fantastic community of volunteers, we rely on enthusiastic helpers like you to make this incredible weekend happen!
What’s in it for you?
By offering your time and services, you get to enjoy all the benefits, beautiful jams, and incredible socializing of this great weekend without having to purchase a ticket!
Who are we looking for?
We need helpers for various roles over the weekend, with a special callout this year for friendly faces to help run our festival registration and merchandise sales desk (if you have experience here, definitely let us know!).

Honk honk! The geese are flying south for the summer, and they are landing right in the Victoria high country!
We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Geese Fly South will be performing at Mountaingrass 2026, Australasia's premier bluegrass and old-time music festival!
They’ll be bringing high-energy, hard-driving bluegrass straight from the far south coast of NSW up to beautiful Bright, Victoria. Their music sets will feature a collection of the classic standards and stories that define the genre, alongside a few of our own originals..
Lock this into your calendars, grab your instruments, and come pick with us!

Want to wind the clock back to the sweet, authentic sounds of yesteryear? ...We are thrilled to welcome the My-T-Fine Stringband to the Mountaingrass stage!
Bringing a delightful blend of acoustic old-time traditional country music, lively stringband dance tunes, and classic 1940s bluegrass, this is a performance you won’t want to miss.
Expect exceptional musicianship served up with a hearty side of humor and engaging anecdotes!
Meet the band: Rod Jones (fiddle & mandolin) & Judy Jones (clawhammer banjo) – Award-winning instrumentalists and vocalists from USA fiddler’s conventions who have even been featured at the legendary Carter Family Fold in Virginia! Lindsay Mar (guitar) – The dedicated voice behind the long-running Bluegrass News column in Trad & Now.
With over 20 years of playing together, this trio is deeply well-versed in the traditional sounds and playing styles of old-time music.
Come along to sit back and soak in the nostalgia.

The ABOTMA Songwriting Competition encourages artists to develop their own sound and story while furthering bluegrass and old-time traditions in a contemporary context. It is part of the annual Mountaingrass festival run by the Australasian Bluegrass and Old Time Music Association (ABOTMA).
The winner will receive $500 cash from Performance Advantage who started the competition in 2024. The runner up will receive $200 cash from AustralianBluegrass.com. Both the winner and runner-up will receive a weekend pass to the festival and the chance to perform their winning song at the Mountaingrass Festival.
Dates: Entries for the 2026 competition are open from 1 July to 30 September 2026.
Authorship: You must write or co-write the song. It must not be published before Mountaingrass 2026. You must submit an MP3 audio recording and a PDF of the lyrics. The song must be performed on acoustic stringed instruments (excluding the bass) in a solo or duo format. Instrumental-only, lyrics-only, or original lyrics set to an existing tune are not accepted. Judges look at song structure and form, melody, lyrics, and originality.

We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing the sound of Oh Gibson to the Mountaingrass stage this November at Australia’s premier bluegrass and old-time music festival.
Get ready for a weekend packed with driving rhythms, tight harmonies, and plenty of pickin'.
Its great to get to hear these great musicians in Oh Gibson (amongst the many others from overseas and Australia), catch up with old friends, make some new ones, and jam the weekend away with you all. Theres no festival or weekend quite like it!

In a nieve way, I suppose I never really thought she would go and leave us behind... I also never knew how she used those finger nails to play banjo! :)
